Safety and Security of all women and girls of our country

This petition stems from a deeply personal and heart-wrenching incident that happened at R G Kar medical college, Kolkata, where a lady doctor was raped and killed by inflicting every brutality possible. This single horrifying incident, along with other numerous incidents of heinous crimes of sexual violence against women in India is a stark representation of the enormous problem we face in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, every day nearly 88 rape cases are reported in India and the number is growing every day. This statistic reflects a chilling reality but is likely to barely scrape the surface of the true extent of this issue, considering the amount of unreported cases due to fear, stigma and also the social conditioning that women are generally subjected to.

This petition is an urgent plea to the Supreme Court of India to not just continue taking stern, immediate actions, but to also make the legal process for rape cases faster. Speedier justice would not only ensure that survivors and their families do not have to endure protracted pain, but it could also act as a deterrent, making potential offenders think twice. It is also high time that the Court takes 'suo moto cognizance' and does not entirely depend on or wait for formal proceedings.

The objective is clear: making India a safer place for women by making the law unyielding, the proceedings swift and ensuring justice is not delayed. We beseech the Supreme Court of India to display not just sympathy for the rights of women, but an unflinching commitment to preserving the dignity and safety of every citizen, irrespective of gender.
