Proposal to reduce speeding traffic in Talbot Road, Hawkhurst

This Autumn, Hawkhurst along with other Parish Councils within Kent County Council are able to submit local traffic calming ideas. There is a budget for one or two traffic calming measures to be created in Hawkhurst.

For nearly 20 years of living in the Talbot Rd area and witnessing many drivers hurtling down Talbot Rd, I couldn't pass up the opportunity of putting forward an idea for traffic calming. After the village end of Talbot Rd was made exit only this halted upward traffic, if the same was done at the Horns Rd end this would stop the Talbot Rd rat run all the way down Talbot Rd. By widening the pavement at the Horns Rd end and and cleary marking what was the exit No Entry. Drivers needing Talbot Rd can use Pipers Lane or The Moor to enter the area.

After contacting Mike Martin, our Tunbridge Wells Borough Council MP, he invited me to put forward this concept to reduce speeding. In response to my asking if gathering signatures would help, Mike agreed that petitions are a good way to have local concerns heard. So if you agree this could be a good solution to reduce the number of speeding cars in Talbot Rd please add your name to this petition.
