Petition regarding the uncontrolled influx of taxis and homeless people around Waterglen Centre
Despite several requests to the City of Tshwane to control the influx of homeless people in the park next to the Waterglen Centre and taxis, the numbers continue to grow.
Taxis are parking illegally around the centre where they are washing vehicles, causing a noise nuisance and spilling waste all over and interfere with normal traffic flow.
Together with the taxis, the number of illegal traders are growing by the day. Clients to these traders park in the street and blocking normal traffic as well as traffic in and out of the Waterglen centre.
Our laws and bylaws are sufficient to manage these situations, but law enforcement is not done effectively. This leads to people feeling unsafe in the environment and not supporting the legal business owners in the area. Crime is increasing with at least one murder reported recently.
The residents of Tshwane demand regular and effective policing by the Tshwane Metro Police Department and other responsible departments to ensure that illegal occupation of land is stopped and that taxi owners strictly adhere to the laws.
