Justice for Ankita Bhandari: Halt the Governor’s Appointment Pending the CBI Investigation
We call for the appointment of Dushyant Kumar Gautam as Governor of Sikkim to be put on hold until the CBI investigation into the alleged VIP angle in the Ankita Bhandari murder case is completed.
In September 2022, 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari was murdered in Uttarakhand. Three men were convicted in connection with her murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. However, questions surrounding the alleged VIP angle have continued to be raised by Ankita’s family.
The CBI investigation into this aspect of the case makes it essential that the concerns raised by her family receive serious consideration.
OUR PRIMARY DEMAND
We urge the competent authorities to halt the appointment process, or take appropriate steps to defer the assumption of office if the appointment has already taken effect, until the investigation is completed and its findings are considered, in accordance with the Constitution and applicable law.
This demand is not a declaration of anyone’s guilt. Allegations must be established through evidence and due process. Our concern is that the appointment should not proceed without serious consideration of the ongoing investigation and the questions raised by Ankita’s family.
WE ALSO CALL FOR:
- A thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the alleged VIP angle.
- Respectful engagement with Ankita’s family and appropriate communication of the investigation’s findings.
- Accountability through lawful proceedings wherever the evidence warrants it.
Ankita was a daughter whose life was taken far too soon. Her family deserves to have its concerns heard, and the public deserves confidence that serious questions are being investigated fairly.
