Wat dreigt er te gebeuren? Burgemeester van Amsterdam Femke Halsema is gemeentelijk beleid aan het aanpassen om overlast op De Wallen terug te dringen. Een van die maatregelen is het beperken van de openingstijden van horeca op De Wallen tot maximaal 02:00. Voor Eagle Amsterdam (open van 23:00 – 05:00) kan dit grote gevolgen hebben.
Waarom zijn wij het er niet mee eens? Eagle Amsterdam is niet de veroorzaker van de overlast op De Wallen. Bij ons lopen geen bezoekers dronken de deur uit. Wij hebben geen terras. Wij veroorzaken geen geluidsoverlast. Wij hebben niet wekelijks ambulance of politie op bezoek. Overlast wordt duidelijk door andere cafés veroorzaakt.
Wat zijn de gevolgen voor de regenboog community? Wanneer Eagle Amsterdam zou wegvallen valt een belangrijke plek voor de Amsterdamse regenboog community weg. Eagle Amsterdam biedt een veilige plek voor ontmoetingen, en met het inperken van openingstijden zal de behoefte om elkaar te ontmoeten niet ophouden te bestaan. Ontmoetingen zullen zich verplaatsen van een veilige plek als Eagle Amsterdam, naar onveilige plekken zoals op straat, in parken of bij een vreemde thuis. Dit kan ook de reputatie van de Amsterdamse regenboog community schaden. Deze reputatieschade zal ook gevolgen hebben voor andere regenboog-ondernemingen en -verenigingen. Eagle Amsterdam is bovendien niet alleen een plek om te dansen en elkaar te ontmoeten, het is ook een plek voor educatie, emancipatie en healthcare. Eagle Amsterdam werkt samen met verschillende stichtingen om workshops en een veilige plek te bieden voor iedereen (alle genders, alle voorkeuren) binnen de regenboog community.

What is at risk?
Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema is changing municipal policies to reduce nuisance in the Red Light District. One of those measures is restricting hospitality opening hours in the area to a maximum of 02:00. For Eagle Amsterdam (open 23:00–05:00), this could have major consequences.
Why do we disagree?
Eagle Amsterdam is not the source of the nuisance in the Red Light District. People do not walk out of our venue drunk. We have no terrace. We do not cause noise nuisance. We do not have ambulances or police showing up weekly. The nuisance is clearly caused by other cafés.
What are the consequences for the rainbow community?
If Eagle Amsterdam disappears, an important place for the Amsterdam rainbow community disappears. Eagle Amsterdam offers a safe place to meet, and reducing opening hours will not stop the need for these meetings. They will shift from a safe place like Eagle Amsterdam to unsafe places such as streets, parks, or strangers’ homes.
This can also damage the reputation of the Amsterdam rainbow community. Such reputational damage will affect other rainbow businesses and associations as well.
Eagle Amsterdam is not only a place to dance and meet—it is also a place for education, emancipation, and healthcare. Eagle Amsterdam collaborates with several foundations to provide workshops and a safe space for everyone (all genders, all preferences) within the rainbow community.
