the multi-agency group has urged the owners of the listed buildings to expedite the works as swiftly as possible, but they have still to do so - despite the SDNPA having served them with an Urgent Works Notice. I also understand that the multi-agency group has provided regular press statements and held meetings with the Midhurst business community to update them on the situation. The Secretary of State's policy is to only consider it for de-listing after a rigorous appraisal of the facts has taken place. Nor will applications for de-listing generally be considered whilst such a building is the subject of enforcement action by the relevant local planning authority or such action is likely, or if it is subject to other legal proceedings. In the case of The Angel Inn, The Tuck Shop and Cranstons, Historic England has advised that it considers them to be capable of restoration repair. If this proves to be possible, this is likely to produce a better long-term cultural and economic outcome for Midhurst, given that part of its attraction to visitors as an important historic market town is its characterful historic buildings.
