Little people given big power and having limited understanding of Law. As for scruples or morals, these clowns are totally devoid. Swansea City Unitary Members or 'SCUM' for short.

Elba ground rent campaign

You can bet that the people making this decision don't live on the estate. It probably now makes all houses on City of Swansea leases now un-sellable.

I totally agree with mr Dean Charles and the residents of the Elba, this is a absolute bolt out of the blue,no consultation with the community. It would be helpful to know if any other communities in the Swansea area whose homes are lease hold have their ground rent astronomically raised. It would also be helpful if every Tennant in the Elba tallied all their individual raises together to see how much the council have planned to make.

What a joke!
Guest#31 Jun 13, 2014, 06:51
6000per cent raise on current ground rent where does this money go as the council is the owner. Why wasn't this noticed when my elderly mum bought the house 11years ago.
Guest#32 Jun 13, 2014, 07:00
Hope it all gets sorted quickly ..!
Guest#33 Jun 13, 2014, 07:23
Last year to buy the lease hold would have cost approx £5,100 +legal costs. The council will only allow you to buy the lease hold now based on the increase. This means that over night the ground our house is built on has gone up to approx £30.000 !!
When we bought the house the development was called "Copper Meadow" very appropriate name considering the Council at that time realised how many millions of coppers they would make in 25 years ! This was built on waste land that was worthless, if we dig 6 inches down in our garden we hit clincher left from the steel works that had stood on this ground before.
We are financially ruined if this goes ahead. Any wills or inheritance we planned for our children are in the same position as our house "WORTHLESS"

People are never better of. Everybody in power takes advantage of the public who cannot escape the poor decision making of local and national government. The people at the top do not have an inkling of what it is like for those who have little or nothing.

It is an absolute disgrace. When I asked about why notice was served after the date of review, I was matter of factly told: There was no legal obligation on the Local Authority to provide any notice. Based on LA review, I'm already £325 in arrears! I would like to know why emails and letters to Strategic Estate's Division are not being replied to? I urge all Elba residents to attend the public meeting on Monday 16th at 18:30hrs.

Unbelievable !!

Appalling decision - is this how Labour fight poverty ? The cabinet should hang their heads in shame for agreeing to this Hike in Ground Rent.
We must all fight this - this could set a precedent for the whole country
United we will beat this Rachmann style behaviour of our local authority

Elba Ground Rent Campaign

I am an Elba resident, living on a pension and am already struggling to pay utility bills. One hundred percent...two hundred percent was what I expected. There is no way I can afford such a monstrous increase. I simply don't have the money!! I'd like a copy of your letter please Mike.
Guest#40 Jun 15, 2014, 15:55
What they are doing is scandalous. I hope you win, don't let them get away with it.
Guest#41 Jun 15, 2014, 21:38
No one minds an increase, yet up to 5000% so wrong!!!!!!!!!
Guest#42 Jun 16, 2014, 16:46
I think it is a disgrace by the council to increase the ground rent by so much. You have first time buyers to pensioners living on the estate and to pay out this much more each year is an absolute joke!!!!
Guest#43 Jun 16, 2014, 16:50
Reasonable rise? Typical politician rubbish!
Guest#44 Jun 16, 2014, 16:52
Both my wif and myself are O.A.Ps, where are we supposed to find an extra 1,500-00 pounds every year. If this was a one off payment it would still be a lot to find out of the blue.
Guest#45 Jun 16, 2014, 16:54
The same as my husband only more so. This is very worrying.
Guest#46 Jun 16, 2014, 17:30
