#12013-12-15 17:05As a regular of over 20 years I feel very strongly that the Clifton should remain as public house. Pubs in general are a very important asset to social and cultural life in the community. Also, architecturally exceptional pubs like The Clifton are very much part of our heritage. They should be protected, not flogged off to the nearest developer at the drop of a hat. Pubs should count as highly worthy of conservation. Have the buyers gained permission for change of use? |

#9 Clifton2013-12-17 20:14The Clifton is one of the great pubs of North West London, a landmark, and an eccentricity in its location amid the villas of St John's Wood. A piece of Lndon dies if The Clifton goes, and shame on those who would hasten that (as if shame meant anything to them!) I don't sign petitions generally. I don't like crowds, but I've spent many a jolly hour in the Clifton, as have most of its patrons. Hands off! |

#132013-12-18 09:55I spent 21 years living in neighbouring Kilburn and the Clifton was a great place to go to. It was like escaping to a country pub hidden away in a posh back street of North London. Spent many happy hours at the Clifton - great food, great pub. Sorry to see greed and disregard for community once again raise its ugly head. |

It was well run, had character, a proud history, a bloody good pub quiz, fine beer and a worthy menu. Sadly, some rich, selfish a@@@hole wants to change it's use and in doing so, stick two fingers up at the community where they will be living. That should not be allowed. A few possible blockers for our would be developer....is the building listed or of significant historical or cultural interest that might require a more justified application for change of use? Can a public consultation be demanded with regards to the change of use of the building.Has any thought been given to a cooperative buying the property and running it as a pub themselves? Best of luck to you all in saving The Clifton. |

#212013-12-19 16:11This is a historic building. This former hunting lodge is, or was, a pub in disguise. Edward VII had the Clifton declared a hotel so he could pursue his paramours without being accused of doing so in a pub - we cannot throw history away like this. It makes the street unique. |
