Thank you for raising awareness of this unnecessary and cruel practice. I have an adorable rescued jack russel pup who's has brought so much joy into my life. We've had her for six months, someone had docked her tail before she came to us, she cringes and get upset whenever her tail is touched!

I recently bought a cocker spaniel from a breeder but her tail was already docked, given a choice I would not have it done.

i do not agree with puppy tail docking, i think its so cruel, and the pain and suffering they go through, they have feelings the same as us humans,

We got our little Jack Russel in March from Dunboyne pound, she was found in Tallaght. Whoever owned her before us docked her tail, I hate to think how painful it was for her. It is unnecessary and cruel please ban tail docking in Ireland!!

Re:
Hi, same here our little Jack Russel's tail was docked when we got her from the pound we have her 8 months and was only very young when she came to live with us. She is a little dote but still a little nervous at times. We have another Jack Russlel, who is two now we bought from a private breeder, he has a full beautiful tail. I can't understand why anyone would cause them pain by doing this?

Docking serves no purpose
If a dog was meant to have a short tail it would
Be born that way
If a dog was meant to have a short tail it would
Be born that way

Our JRT was a rescue dog with tail already docked. It sometimes gets sore and she chews it. I have no idea of it was done by a professional but the poor pups in Ireland will be done by anyone who fancies having a go at it and lord knows what the outcome will be and will the have a go merchant be prepared to rush the poor soul to the vet if it becomes infected? -I dont think so. If someone is prepared to do this to a living creature without anaesthetic, I think its unlikely they will pay out for antibiotics.

Please sign this in order to put a stop to this cruel procedure. It is likened to cutting off a baby's finger!

My family has always had boxers who were given to us by breeders who got rid of their tail and have always been upset at the difficulties the breeders place on them (lack of balance, difficulty swimming and staying afloat)- enough is enough!

Guest#613 Nov 20, 2013, 21:42
Tail Docking is cruel it has to stop
Guest#614 Nov 20, 2013, 22:16
This is so cruel and there is no need for this at all. Dogs need their tails for many reasons. Vain people decided that they didn't
Guest#615 Nov 20, 2013, 22:39
Horrific that a part of a dog's body could be chopped off and with no consequences for the person who does it.

Yet again Ireland proves to the world that is a backward, un-civilised country with an appalling attitude to Animal welfare, the environment, conservation etc etc..... the list is endless.
Guest#617 Nov 21, 2013, 09:38
This is a disgusting and vile practise and needs to be outlawed urgently.
Guest#618 Nov 21, 2013, 11:21
backward sensless Ireland!!.but somebody does want this...WHO???
Guest#619 Nov 21, 2013, 14:36

Excellent petition as a response to this barbaric practice:
Guest#621 Nov 21, 2013, 17:28
Where is our humanity and years of so called 'progress' if we allow this?
Guest#622 Nov 21, 2013, 19:16
This is a terrible motion and one that is totally unnecessary. Allowing non-professionals to do it without anaestetic or painkillers is amazingly wrong.
Guest#623 Nov 21, 2013, 21:11
If your gonna take the tails off why not take the ears too!!
Guest#624 Nov 21, 2013, 21:12
Please stop this practice!!! just awful!!!
Guest#625 Nov 21, 2013, 22:19
Everyday I am disgusted at the Irish attitudes towards animals. I am in a stage in my life where I am ashamed of being Irish and ashamed of being a part of the human race. My heart breaks everyday with reports of abandoned and abided animals. The government in this country are a joke. I hate what society has become. Please please please do not let this happen. Would you like a piece of your anatomy barbarically taken from you?
