Although I now live in Bolton, up until 3 years ago I have lived my whole life off Barton Road and used to use this junction multiple times a day. It is a tedious junction on such a main route into Manchester and a lot of people don't understand road priorities. It is crazy there aren't lights in place. Don't let these two peoples' deaths go in vain.

Firstly, my condolences to both families involved.

I don't however agree with traffic lights. This was an accident caused by the actions of individuals. It most certainly would have been avoided by those two cars driving sensibly.

I'm much rather see a speed camera on that stretch of road to deter excess speeding. I'd also suggest stopping drivers turning right at the bottom of Barton Road as there are alternatives that are not far away with traffic lights that drivers can use.

Both these suggestions would firstly reduce the speed of cars on that stretch of road and secondly stop cars from crossing a lane of traffic and attempting to enter traffic that is already moving.

This Junction has always been dangerous esp for people turning across the traffic. Lights would be helpful.

Let's hope that we get a sensible judge when it gets to Crown Court and that the two childish boy racers are given the maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment for EACH sad death consecutively. It won't happen but we can live in hope.

I do think there is a need for lights at the junction, but there is a serious need for speed cameras... I know myself how dangerous crossing that part of the east lancs is as I had to regularly walk over the road as part of my journey to and from swinton.

I don't think it's just to stop the speeding. Do you think it's safe to cross maybe three lanes without traffic lights? It's difficult to see down there so at least you can have peace of mind when crossing the carriageway if there's traffic lights. The petition mentions traffic flow as during peak times you can be stuck at that junction for a while before getting out. There's traffic lights at every other junction so why not this one?
