Bring back Sharon McMahon for UVU's commencement speaker!

"Sharon is someone who has always tried to increase civic education by explaining complicated political issues in a simple, factual, and nonpartisan way. She did not celebrate Charlie Kirk’s death, but called it tragic and wrong. To help people understand the political climate around the assassination she explained that Charlie was a divisive figure, a conclusion that can be made from many of his public statements. She has used her platform to increase awareness for many different issues, not to bring others down. Free speech includes hearing the perspectives of others, something Charlie Kirk also advocated for. That free speech also includes things we may not like to hear, but it is important regardless. Otherwise we are going against the very principles that are the foundation of American democracy. The fact that we have created an environment that makes it so someone would fear for their safety at an event that is supposed to celebrate an amazing accomplishment is disappointing and not reflective of the type of community UVU has shown to be."
