A fitting tribute to Murray Walker OBE - Silverstone to name a stand, corner or straight in his memory
Murray Walker OBE is considered by many to be the voice of Motorsport, not only in Britain but around the world.
Murray sadly passed away in March 2021, at the age of 96. The news of his passing reverberated around the motor racing world with many tributes dedicated to the passion-fuelled broadcasting legend.
Murray was so much more than 'just a commentator' his passion, joy, and emotion were contagious, with many considering his famous 'Murrayisms' a contributing factor in their love for the sport.
What tribute could me more fitting than a straight, or corner or stand at his beloved Silverstone Circuit. He was, after all, present when Silverstone hosted its very first Grand Prix in 1948
Murray often spoke of his love for Silverstone and is recalled as saying “Silverstone has always meant a heck of a lot to me,” he enthused. “I was here in 1948 and have covered just about everything on wheels since then. I’ve seen the circuit grow from a World War 2 bomber base into the fantastic complex that it is today and it’s great to see quite literally hundreds of the amazing cars I’ve seen racing here still competing at The Classic. It’s a unique event and there’s nothing else quite like it in the world.”
So, we, fans of Murray, fans of F1and fans of motorsport in general ask that Silverstone Circuit dedicate part of their track as a permanent memorial and tribute to the late, great Mr Murray Walker OBE.
