URGENT RESTORATION OF WATER SUPPLY

We, the undersigned residents and affected community members supplied by the Crown Gardens Reservoir, are formally petitioning Johannesburg Water and the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality regarding the ongoing disruption of water supply caused by the shutdown of the Crown Gardens reservoir.

Communities dependent on this reservoir have been without water for several days, and many residents recently experienced another extended outage just weeks prior. These repeated disruptions are severely affecting households, hygiene, businesses, and the basic dignity of residents.

Access to water is a basic necessity and a constitutional right in South Africa. Prolonged outages without adequate communication, contingency planning, or reliable water tanker services are unacceptable.

 We therefore demand the following

• Immediate restoration of water supply to all areas affected by the Crown Gardens reservoir shutdown

• Clear and transparent communication regarding the cause of the outage and expected restoration timelines

• Consistent and accessible emergency water tanker services to affected communities

• A sustainable plan from Johannesburg Water to prevent recurring outages affecting this reservoir supply system

Failure to address these concerns urgently will leave affected residents with no option but to escalate the matter to the media, relevant oversight bodies, and national authorities.

This petition represents the collective concern and frustration of residents and communities who depend on the Crown Gardens reservoir for their daily water supply.
