Urgent rehabilitation of sinkhole on Rondebult Road

To: MMC for Roads and Transport Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality and Minister of the Department of Mineral Resources  

We, the undersigned, petition the government to urgently rehabilitate the sinkhole on Rondebult road due to the following reasons:

1.    Public safety: The sinkhole poses a significant risk to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, causing potential accidents and fatalities. Motorists are exposed daily to criminals, smashing vehicle windows, and stealing items from vehicles. Serious bodily harm to motorists caused by violent criminal activities in peak hours of congested roads due to the prolonged closure of Rondebult Road.  

2.    Traffic Congestion: The sinkhole has resulted in severe traffic congestion, affecting commuters, businesses, and the local economy.  

3.    Infrastructure Damage: If left unrepaired, the sinkhole will continue to deteriorate, causing further damage to the road and potentially leading to more extensive and costly repair.  

4.    Environmental Concerns: The sinkhole may be causing environmental damage, potentially affecting nearby water sources and ecosystems.  

We urge the government (Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality and the department of Mineral resources) to:

1.    Immediately assess the sinkhole and develop a comprehensive repair plan.

2.    Allocate necessary funds for the rehabilitation project.  

3.    Complete the repairs within a reasonable timeframe to minimize disruptions.

4.    Implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.  

By signing this petition, we demand urgent action to ensure public safety, prevent further damage, and maintain the integrity of our road infrastructure.
