Tell Dollar General You Support Local Businesses

We, the residents and property owners of Scott Township, say “No” to Dollar General and yes to locally owned and operated businesses. We are against the proposed Dollar General store at the corner of A&H in Scott Township, Burnett County, Wisconsin. We want to preserve the Townships rural way of life. This corporate owned box store not only threatens our family owned and operated businesses in the area, but also the local suppliers.  In addition, it would take away from the “up north feel” of having unique, family run businesses local residents and visitors have come to enjoy about our area.

Any possible property tax or job benefit that a Dollar General store would provide the county would quickly be negated by potential loss of current tax paying businesses. In the short term, their buying power will put local family-owned businesses out of business and we feel in a few years, a corporate decision will be made out of their Goodlettsville Tennessee headquarters to close the store due to less-than-desired profits and we as local citizens will be left with nothing.

I sign this petition because Scott Townships open space and rural way of life is our greatest asset and we want to preserve it for generations to come. We welcome and value family-owned business and locally produced goods that enhance the value of the Township and surrounding area. We want to attract locally owned businesses such as shops, restaurants, tourism, agriculture, and locally produced goods that create lasting economic opportunities while increasing our quality of life in the Township. We ask the developer to reconsider and find a different location that better suits them and the community.

By signing this petition, I certify that I am a permanent or seasonal resident or visitor of Scott Township, and should Dollar General open this store, will not shop there and will vote instead with my dollars to support local businesses.
