Petition to Terminate Employment of Controversial Fellow Nathan Cofnas at the University of Cambridge

It is outrageous that the University thinks it is ok to hire someone who harbours such backward thinking. This shouldn’t be a debate. He needs to be fired and the philosophy department should be ashamed and itself go under investigation as to why he was hired in the first place.
From a very unhappy Cambridge student.

It's disgraceful that this person is allowed to be at the University and shameful that no action has been taken, what this person has written goes beyond what is acceptable as free speech and it is language that incites racial and religious hatred.

I strongly disagree with the abhorrent views propagated by this man and think that the University should not support his work.

This type of pseudo-academic bigotry should not go unchecked, especially by what is meant to be one of the best academic institutions in the country.

As an alumnus of Emmanuel, I am horrified that it is legitimising the racist theories of this associate.

Nathan Cofnas is wrong, factually and morally. He abuses the notion of free speech for his own personal gain, to its ultimate detriment.

I don’t want a racist and a transphobe platformed in my university’s name.

It is absurd that one of the leading universities for innovation and forward thinking is employing a staff member with such an ugly and outdated understanding of the world. Some academic schools deserve to fade into obscurity and this is one of them.

A Professor who employs eugenicist logic has no place in this University. His views ridicule what it means to have such a privileged and platformed academic position. As a black and white person I am immensely disappointed and scared that this man was even considered for Fellowship, despite having previous race scandals before. Reading these views on racially-orientated segregation in what is literally 2024 is something of a nightmare. Did no one do a quick google search before hiring? Shame on you University of Cambridge.

His comments were atrociously demeaning and quite frankly some of the most abhorrent takes I have heard in a long while. He should not be associated or supported on any manner by a university that prides itself on diversity, nor a college that describes itself as welcoming and friendly. By associating with him, Cambridge entirely undermines everything they stand for with their students and faculty and its embarrassing.

Black students deserve to feel like they belong.

Everyone should feel welcome at Emma and I do not support racism from any member.

This is appalling especially from the University - it should not be allowed to claim solidarity with BAME students and refuse to act on the issues that impact those very students most.

I'm signing because I stand against all forms of racism in academia and especially at Cambridge!

I am horrified as a member of the University of Cambridge that an individual with such despicable and dangerous views as Nathan Cofnas on race that the institution is platforming and enabling. I think this is a negligence of their role as an educational provider.
