#1206

I agree with Teddy!

Janice Rafuse-Crowe (Herring Cove, 2023-12-01)

#1207

This emoji is just used as an anti-intellectual insult and should be changed.

E Williams (Nelson, 2023-12-01)

#1209

I’m signing this petition because my son who is 9, is having the same experience as Teddy is. I think his idea is brilliant and more accurate for an emoji. He’s such a brevas boy!

Maria Rivera (Southampton, 2023-12-01)

#1210

Bullying of people wearing glases has been happening for far too long.

Hayley Dickerson (Ipswich, 2023-12-01)

#1212

Teddy is right.

Emily Nixon (Wellington, 2023-12-01)

#1213

I totally agree, just because I wear glasses doesn't mean I am a nerd. There is enough stogma on the world already for wearing glasses, let's not keep one more thing to add to that!

Paula Heavey (Whanganui, 2023-12-01)

#1216

Wearing glasses and you are right emoji should change.

Michel Grossnickel (Witney, 2023-12-01)

#1217

Positive modeling is something we should all commit to. The nerd emoji is archaic and inappropriate.

Karen Pasley (Auckland, 2023-12-01)

#1221

I agree with Teddy and there is no reason the
design can not be updated .

Nat Clark (Christchurch, 2023-12-01)

I have glasses and hate the emoji nerd because people make fun of me saying I'm a nerd.

Martha Grimes (South Marston , 2023-12-01)

#1250

My little guy also has glasses and thinks people will call him a nerd! Glasses are cool and they shouldn't encourage people calling people nerds!

AnneMarie Gallagher (Brampton , 2023-12-01)

#1251

Subtle messaging matters! Well done teddy the genius.

Sean Woodward (Invercargill, 2023-12-01)

Kelly Rosser (Auckland, 2023-12-01)

#1260

I think what is amazing boy is doing should be supported! He is absolutely right!

Susan Lantz (Waterloo, 2023-12-01)

#1261

Teddy has a good point, the term nerd is outdated and this emoji could be used for teasing. I hope apple listen to his ideas

Sharon Pearson (Sheffield, 2023-12-01)

#1266

I agree with Teddy, it;s offensive.

Barbara Simpson (Inglewood, 2023-12-01)

#1270

Great work Teddy challenging these stereotypes.

Jo Newton (West Coast, 2023-12-01)

I watched, over 25 years ago our youngest daughter, aged 6, wear glasses to school for the first day. She was so scared. But upon entering her classroom, holding my hand tightly, the little boy who sat next to instantly came forward and admired her lovely new glasses. Next day 3 children in her classroom came to school wearing homemade crafted glasses to look just like her. Glasses are cool and attractive not nerdy.

Jacqui Reith (Dunedin , 2023-12-01)

#1274

I'm signing because I wear glasses, so I'm smart ;-)

Pieter Pledts (Aarschot, 2023-12-01)

Anneke Druyts (Castro Valley, 2023-12-01)

#1276

Go Teddy n people w glasses!

Daniel Kantor (Budapest, 2023-12-01)

#1277

So called nerds have done so much for the world yet continue to be disparaged. A Genius emoji gives them the recognition they deserve.

Philippa Williams (Wellington , 2023-12-01)

#1280

Because we love what Teddy is trying to do, my son wears glasses and agrees with everything he said and would like to support the petition.

Lorna Smith (Wigan , 2023-12-01)

#1289

I completely agree, it is important that emojis are not perpetuating negative sterotypes.

Faith Booker (Auckland, 2023-12-01)

#1297

The kid is right. Why the rabbit teeth?

Pieter Lemmens (Boechout België, 2023-12-01)

#1300

I think the glasses need to be pink and the front teeth should be far larger

Nerdy Nerdson (New Plymouth, 2023-12-01)

#1304

I agree

Bernard Liddington (Auckland , 2023-12-01)

#1316

My son wears glasses and he is the coolest guy ever

Hayleigh Kelly (Auckland, 2023-12-01)

#1317

As a nerd who does not wear glasses I have always felt this emoji is inappropriate. I like the concept of an emoji to express geeky joy, or nerding out on a special interest: but the existing glasses emoji promulgates outdated concepts such as 'four-eyes' and buck teeth, which is not appropriate in the modern context. It is inherently disparaging and injurious to both self-image and other people's perceptions.
I would suggest a second emoji, separate from Teddy's smiling glasses emoji, to symbolise the scholarly, studious nature: for example combining aspects of the student emoji with graduation cap, scientist emoji holding an Erlenmeyer flask, test tube emoji, maybe a new person holding a book emoji, or similar.

Stacey King (Whangarei, 2023-12-01)

#1325

This is for my son because he can't sign this.
I have glasses and wonky teeth so I do not like this emoji either it's is offensive and nerd is not a nice name for someone who is smart😡😡😡😡😡

Hannah Gell (Cupar, 2023-12-01)

#1327

I support Teddy's petition because I can confirm that I wear glasses and I am very cool.
Further, I know many bespectacled fantastic people, who are also cool.

Putting glasses and buck teeth together to represent nerdery is a tired stereotype, and excludes the many proud nerds who have neither.

Thanks for speaking up Teddy and friends!

Emily Taylor (Auckland, 2023-12-01)

#1328

i'm wairing glases aswell , and teddy is for 100% correct , whe d'ont look stupit but cool

Tony De clercq (Lo/Reninge, 2023-12-01)

#1332

Personally myself I have prominent front teeth due to an overjet issue. I have always found this emoji insulting. So awesome to see someone standing up to this. I personally prefer this design with the smaller smile : ) Well done!

Emma M (Christchurch, 2023-12-01)

#1335

I like nerds, and I want nerd kids to feel like this world has hope and is worth living, even if it’s actually filled by idiots.

#1353

Equality and inclusivity is essential in preventing racism, exclusion and or marginalisation of certain individuals. This in any direction, ist est including people with any handicaps, from glasses for poor sight, medical disabilities or your born natural outcome from your mom and dad. Each single human counts in humanism.

Barry Kolenaar (Boekelo, 2023-12-02)

#1354

Teddy had a point - as a now adult who had to wear glasses as a child

Bryher Williams (Waihi, 2023-12-02)

Putting glasses on a character to show they are a nerd is naive, narrow minded and outdated .

Megan Little (Christchurch , 2023-12-02)

#1379

I have glasses 🕶️🤓 as well and I am not ashamed of having to have them because if I didn't I couldn't drive, see anything clearly and admire the beauty that surounds me.

#1382

Great initiative from the young boy!!

Jordon Cunningham (Otago , 2023-12-02)

#1383

It’s hard for anyone to have to wear glasses all the time and partly so for children. The emoji is deeply offensive and needs to be removed.

Susan Stirling (Palmerston North, 2023-12-02)

#1385

And while we're at it, lets improve the number of red head emojis too!

Ella B (Wellington, 2023-12-02)
