Safe routes to school: Streatham Vale/Greyhound Terrace/Grove Road junction

Calling on all local residents to support steps to make the junction at Streatham Vale/Greyhound Terrace/ Leonard Road, in Streatham South a safe route to school and for all pedestrians.

This junction is used every morning and afternoon by hundreds of children and their families who walk or cycle to school. It is a major access point for the pupils of Granton Primary School. There is also a nursery located on the junction, and it is an access point for the Streatham Community Youth Centre and nursery.

There are various crossing points at the junction but traffic - especially during school drop off and pick up times - makes these crossings extremely dangerous.

Vehicles do not feel under any obligation to stop as there are no official pedestrian crossing points. Under- taking and over-taking - without consideration for who might be trying to cross - is common, as is aggressive driving.

Many parents have expressed serious concerns about this junction and believe it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs.

Will you consider adding your name to this petition to call on Lambeth and Merton Councils to introduce urgent traffic calming measures at this junction?

Local councillors have already agreed to conduct a site visit this month and meet with local parents and community leaders - which is very encouraging. A petiton signed by local residents and parents that we can present to the councillors, would be a powerful indication of how much support there is for this locally.

Thank you!
