Oppose the name change National Park (Village) being changed to Waimarino

Location is Wrong

• Waimarino Pa site is not at National Park Village
• Waimarino is a regional name covering the southern part of Ruapehu District centered on Raetihi and Ohakune

Confusion

• More confusion if name is changed, unnecessary
• References to current confusion about mail and locality is incorrect
• Waimarino is better known as the southern area of Ruapehu District

• This is our personal identity
• OUR Long term heritage
• We built up the village

National Park Village

• National Park Village Identity needs to be retained
• The Brand has enormous strength and is very well-known
• Visitor Industry is the lifeblood of our existence
• Businesses have built up the village

National Park Village Name Strength

• NPV is understood internationally
• The name is solidly established for 97 years
• The name relates to the adjacent Tongariro National Park

Maps and Signs

• Is the cost of change warranted?
• Village Entry Signs was a $50k Community Project (Not paid by RDC)
• Cost of road signs, maps, RDC planning
