MAC234 Term Test 2 Rewrite Petition

Dear Dr Jacobs,

We, the students of MAC234, are writing this petition to request a rewrite of Term Test 2, which took place on 5 May 2023. We feel that the test was unfairly set and was beyond the level of what we were taught in the course.

As students, we have spent countless hours reviewing the course material, attending tutorials, and practicing past papers in preparation for the test. However, we were caught off-guard during the test as we encountered unfamiliar questions that were not covered in the course material.

Furthermore, the majority of students attempted all questions available on iKamva, and despite this effort, it was not enough preparation for the level of difficulty in that paper.

This left us feeling unprepared and unable to answer questions effectively. It will reflect that the average marks of the class were much lower than expected, which is a clear indication that the test was too difficult and unfair.

We believe that the assessment should be a fair representation of the knowledge we have acquired throughout the course, and this was not the case with the recent test. We are therefore requesting a rewrite of the test, where the questions are aligned with the course material taught, and the level of difficulty is consistent with what we have been exposed to in class.

We appreciate the effort put in by the faculty and staff in ensuring a quality learning experience for us, and we hope that our request for a rewrite of the test will be considered. We believe that this will enable us to demonstrate our understanding of the subject matter and receive fair and accurate grades.
