I spent a year working at this store and regard it as one of the best years ever. I truly hope they don't close you down. Much love to you all,

I am a woman in my 70s and I still remember when I came to this store with my mum and gran the area the families always associate the store with the past and the future , to close this store would be very wrong t would be taking away my memories and part of my life will go and never be seen ! please reconsider this decision its a silly silly mistake .

This shop is a beacon of light on Woolwich high street. If you want to regenerate, how can M&S go?

No-one will have a job soon the way the businesses in this country are going, downright disgusting the way they treat their employees, we are people you know not just numbers on a sheet of paper, we have lives, families, financial commitments, surely you make enough profit already think about your staff

Clearly with the new store planned for Woolwich Rd Charlton this decision isn't going to be reversed. Very shortsighted of M&S they'll regret this in 5-7 years time when they see how Woolwich has changed...

This M&S store is an integral part of Woolwich and one of the few decent shops left. It is steeped in history and much of the community relies on it's services.

#21 Save M&S Woolwich

2014-06-05 22:33

Sorry but its time to wake up - this is 2014, this store has not made a profit for many many years. Shopping habits are changing. M&S have tried to make the store profitable by changing the focus. The store is not economically viable and should close.
M&S is doing the right thing here - none of the staff are being made redundant as all have been offered alternative positions in the company.

Woolwich is just one of the 15 or so store marked for closure once their leases are up for renewal or it becomes viable to close the property.

Please be assured that M&S will be opening many more stores this year than it is closing.

I find it quite unbelievable that the Woolwich store is to be considered for closure. It is without question the only quality store left in Woolwich and you are getting more and more people coming to and living in Woolwich who are M&S customers of many years standing it makes no sense M&S have to spend some money update like you have in other towns in not right to leave us out wheres your loyalty to long term loyal customers? Give us a better store and see how things change I used to be able to get so much in the store changing it to an outlet has never been the answer quality store like the others in our general area please!! You will soon seen the difference speculate to accumalate and we love your staff they are great!!

#21: mark38 - Save M&S Woolwich

Mark 38 those that have signed this are awake.  Have you heard of something called crossrail and the royal arsenal development representing investment measured in billions which mean a huge commercial opportunity for the future of Woolwich which is what we care about.  If you havent heard of these projects I suggest you look them up and see what benefits they will bring to SE18. Do you think a company like Tesco would have spent tens of millions In Woolwich if they didn't believe it was economically viable.

As for the staff hopefully M&S will take care of them because whenever I shop in the store they work tirelessly in a really difficult store environment so deserve to be looked after.

As for your other comments you seem to have inside knowledge on M&S plans to close more stores 15 or so you say.  If that is true then its disappointing that your company is more interested in shutting stores than investing in the High streets that made your company what it is today.  There is a bright future for Woolwich and if M&S choose to pull out it will be their loss.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything that M&S Woolwich Supporter has said. Woolwich is expanding rapidly and people need decent shops or they will shop elsewhere. Be sensible M&S and refurbish the Woolwich M&S, it can only enhance Woolwich High Street.

WAKE UP M&S!!
