I used to regularly go to this cinema before it was closed by the previous owner and it was one of the most beautiful venues that should not be modernised to its detriment.

I'm worried the 3-screen cinema proposed by London-based operator Everyman might be a wolf in sheep's clothing to get the planning permission for the flats that have already been rejected at the public hearing last year. I'd much rather seen a local Bristol group bring the building back to life as a community venue.

Having enjoyed many a film & many a pint of Gillespies downstairs in the Dog & Duck, it would be a total travesty to let the big city types come in & destroy our heritage. Yes, we need to protect the building, yes we need a sympathetic & caring restoration of this beautiful old building, we don't need the wanton destruction of it to line the coffers of a London based organisation! Shame on you for even considering it. We need to save it before it's too late

Please sign this petition. We don't want this building converted into flats. We particularly want part of the building to be used, once again, as a cinema.We are still grieving for the loss of the one that was there.

I support the community-based plan for this cinema which would preserve the historic character of the building and does not involve flats or change of use.

So glad I took a screenshot of the previous comments that you have deleted. It appears that you are determined to stifle any comments that point out the similarity of your plans to this developer's. What have you got to hide? Why do you want to stop a development that would result in the building being restored to its former glory, and a viable multi-screen cinema that would thrive and offer local residents a choice of films to see?

Deleted messages

I am trying to undelete the removed messages. There is no obvious way of doing this on the Admin section of the site, so I have contacted the Helpdesk to enquire as to whether it is possible. If they can be re-instated they will be.

Someone (anonymous Guest Comment #20) has mentioned they took screenshots of them though, so this person can re-instate them I'm sure if they wish.

As per my comment #19, I would strongly encourage anyone to put their name to their comment so that we can contact them for further discussion as to the future of this heritage asset.

This is a heritage building which deserves to be properly conserved.

I fully support restoring this building to its 1920's grandeur and think it would be a crime to let london developers march into our beautiful city and destroy an iconic landmark.
