The lines appear to have been moved to their current position without a full review of the future consequences. Ie The trees would naturally grow creating the current situation. Poor planning. Put the power cables underground.

The avenue of trees is beautiful, in an area that is becoming uglier every day. Surely there is another way to handle the problem of the overhead cables, other than destruction of these old and lovely trees, left to us by foresighted people who came before us?

The trees are not too big yet and were there first. The lines should have been placed further back and presumably on the same private property.

All residents gain a benefit from these trees remaining. As such the maintenance should be a responsibility of Council funded from general rates as is the maintenance of other trees within the district. The loss of amenity along Ladies Mile and Frankton Flats over the last few years has been huge and maintaining these trees is a small mitigation measure consistent with the Queenstown Entrances Study (which seems long forgotten).

1/. We live 1/3 of the year here and 2/3rds in Hastings
2/. We could not believe that such significant natural landscape is ( pronounced/ decided) just like this issue
3/. We belong to a Community/ Council entity in Hawke's Bay (Landmarks Trust) that has gained significant consultation and opinion gathering rights " around the table with Hastings District Council Officers" - this group meets x 4 a year formally and many times informally as issues arise. This issue would have been given high vis on our agendas.
4/. Our Trust holds the rights to opinion on Landscape/ Architecture/ History and Public Art
5/. On trees - we lobbied and gained a Register of Significant Trees ( public and private) - with a sensible protocol in cases of trimming/ cutting e.g.
6/. Boy oh boy, does Queenstown need such a public consultation group - effecting just about everything.
7/. The powers that be simply have to stop ruining the very things that make this place special.

Those trees could be timed there is no reason to cut them down sadly all the good reasons to come to Queenstown are been lost like the rest of the world to development and man ability to spoil all that nature has to offer .

The trees are beautiful and enhance the entrance to Queenstown. The trees were there before the lines and I believe the wires should be underground. I am concerned that progress will damage Queenstown's beauty and fighting to keep the trees is very important. Read the Lorax..Dr Seuss identified that all over the world people have not acted and beautiful places have been ruined through progress. Save the trees.
