*Petition for the Abolishing of the Customary Initiation Act*

To: COGTA

We, the undersigned, respectfully petition for the abolition of the Customary Initiation Act. This Act infringes upon our constitutional right to observe, practice, and preserve our cultural heritage.

*Our Concerns*

The Customary Initiation Act:

1. *Infringes on our rights*:

The Act restricts our ability to practice our traditions and customs, as passed down by our elders.

2. *Imposes financial burdens*:

The Act requires us to pay excessive fees to the government, which is unfair and unsustainable.

3. *Disregards traditional practices*:

The Act fails to consider the sacred nature of our customs, particularly the lebollo practice.

4. *Lacks consultation*:

The Act was introduced without adequate consultation with relevant stakeholders, including traditional practitioners.

*Our Request*

We urge the government to:

1. *Abolish the Customary Initiation Act*:

Repeal the Act in its entirety.

2. *Engage in meaningful consultation*:

Hold a conference with relevant stakeholders to discuss the regulation of customary practices.

3. *Respect our traditions*:

Allow us to practice our customs in accordance with our traditional ways.

*Call to Action*

We call upon organizations and individuals who value their cultural heritage to join us in this petition. Together, we can ensure that our rights are respected and our traditions are preserved.
