SUCCESS: IKEA pausing its stores and production in Russia and Belarus!

2022-03-03 12:05:47

Great news everyone!

MANY THANKS for signing and sharing this petition! IKEA has just announced that it would pause its stores and also furniture production in Russia and Belarus! This is a huge step for them and such an important example to other global businesses. While they do this important gesture they also state that they will take care of their 15 000 employees in these countries in the near future.

This WILL add momentum to the stance that some global firms are taking. This move will also inevitably draw the attention of the local population to hopefully inspire them to also not ignore the committed atrocities against Ukrainian people.

You can find IKEA’s press release here: https://www.ingka.com/news/ikea-pauses-operations-in-russia-and-belarus/

So far this petition was featured in the media and the press services of IKEA were informed about it. We have received so many inspiring comments in this petition and we will share these anonymous comments to the family owners and managers of IKEA as planned so that they are further reaffirmed in their decision.

However, there are many international chains that need to follow the lead of Apple, H&M and IKEA.

Just some examples of other international chains with stores in Russia that we hope will act soon:

Leroy Merlin (French)

OBI (German)

Jysk (Danish)

Marks & Spencer (Brittish)

Nike (American)  - Nike closed the e-commerce due to risk with deliveries - but the stores remain open. This was more of a business decision in the argumentation of the company.

Hunkemöller (Dutch) is pausing expansion of new stores due to risky Russian economy but their 20 stores remain open.
