We demand Senator Godswill Akpabio's Resignation as Senate President SenAkpabiomustgo

P President LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF NIGERIA · NG

The recent actions of Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, have raised serious concerns about his suitability to lead the Nigerian Senate. Specifically:

1. Disregard for Female Colleagues: Senator Akpabio has consistently demonstrated a lack of respect for his female colleagues, including Senator Natacha Akpoti Uduaghan. His actions have created a hostile and intimidating environment, undermining the ability of female senators to effectively represent their constituents.

2. Abuse of Power:Senator Akpabio has abused his position as Senate President to silence and intimidate opposition voices, including Senator Uduaghan. This behavior is unacceptable and has no place in a democratic institution.

3. Undermining Democracy: Senator Akpabio's actions have undermined the legitimacy and effectiveness of the Nigerian Senate. His behavior has created a toxic environment that discourages participation, stifles debate, and undermines the rule of law.

NILOWV's Demand
Senator Akpabio's immediate resignation as Senate President and, we call on the National Assembly to:

1. Address gender-based violence and promote the inclusion and empowerment of women.
2. Create a more inclusive and representative democracy that reflects the diversity of our country.
3. Ensure zero tolerance for gender-based violence in all its forms.
