#201

I have extreme concerns not only regarding the amount of traffic but also the speed at which the traffic travels through our village on a regular basis. Day and Night cars pass through at speeds in excess of 40mph. We have had two cars crashed into in the last year while parked one on Broadway and one just off.

Why has the speed not been restricted to protect our children and elderly residents. I have regularly stood waiting to cross at the crossing cars going far too fast to even stop.

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW.

Nicola Ward (Woodbury EXETER, 2020-03-06)

#203

I support any worthwhile environmental issue, I also know Woodbury

Andy Smith (Southport, 2020-03-06)

#204

I am signing this because my parents live in the village and the speed the cars travel through is unsafe.

Matthew Patterson (Hook, 2020-03-06)

#209

Something should be done about the dangers of traffic in such a congested area. A bypass to from Clyst St George to Exmouth would be idea!

Paul Clark (Exeter, 2020-03-06)

#211

Exceptionaly busy route ,accidents seemed to be happening more frequently. when waiting at the zebra crossing traffic does not stop.needs more traffic calming measures in place.

Rosemary Harrison (Exeter, 2020-03-06)

#212

The village of Woodbury is a one of British farming historic gem. My family regularly visit and stay in many villages in the British isles and Woodbury is one off them.
But the traffic speed needs to massively be reduced at the pedestrian crossing that is located at the bottom of a very steep hill as it enters the heart of the village crossroads, before some body is killed or is this how councils do things now days. Wait for a death.
Word of advise. Fix the probelm now !!. Slow down traffic users that drive illegally.

Dan Boulton (Liverpool, 2020-03-06)

#218

the speed and volume of traffic is getting a lot worse. Very often when traveling up and down globe hill within the speed limit the vehicle behind is hugging my bumper or occasionally a motorist who is very impatient has flashed me to show their discontent.

Joan Hodge (Woodbury, 2020-03-06)

#220

I am very concerned at the high speed cars and motor cyclists rush through our village. It is a danger to life and property. Additionally I hate the noise these soeeding vehicles create.

David Jones (Woodbury, 2020-03-06)

#221

I am signing to keep our community safe. Commuters drive through the village at great speed daily seriously putting pedestrians lives at risk.

Lucy Ward (Exeter, 2020-03-06)

#224

I live in Woodbury and am aware of the serious issues with traffic described in this petition

Stephen Owen (Exeter, 2020-03-06)

#226

I'm signing because I live on Broadway and have witnessed, first hand, traffic speeding down and up Broadway - particularly near and at the zebra crossing which means they are unable to stop in time for pedestrians wanting to cross. Accidents waiting to happen.

Sally Bull (Exeter, 2020-03-06)

#228

My nieces live in Woodbury.

Amy Joomun (Exeter , 2020-03-06)

#230

Globe hill speeding and speeding generally through the village of Woodbury has got to unacceptable and dangerous levels. Proper speed restrictions are required.

Steve Fordham (Woodbury, 2020-03-06)

#231

I used to live in the area and know how dangerous the road can become.

Renny Bulmer (Worthing, 2020-03-07)

#232

Road safety is very important

Rheanna Shermer (Devon , 2020-03-07)

#233

As a resident of Woodbury I have seen an increase in traffic and also witnessed the high speeds that people do. This is a community village with young children and an elderly population that need to be kept safe.

Christian Lillie (Exeter, 2020-03-07)

#236

I'm signing because I live in Woodbury and want it to be a safe place to live for my family and friends.

Jane Middleton (Exeter, 2020-03-07)

#237

We have lived on Broadway for 38 years and can recollect a number of accidents largely due to speeding and, frankly, driving without due care and attention - some of which my wife and/or myself have attended.
Whilst I understand the difficulty of “re-routing” traffic with the present pathetic road network in the area, particularly with the ambitious increase in housing, I don’t understand the inability of DCC or Highways to implement sensible speed limiting initiatives/controls on Broadway.
This problem is only going to get worse and I suspect nothing of significance will happen until there is a fatality - I certainly wouldn’t want to be the recipient of this petition who files it in “file 13” and then has to face those unacceptable consequences.

Gordon Cameron (Woodbury , 2020-03-07)

#239

The speed of some of the traffic through our village is frightening and needs something to help calm it before someone is hurt!

Abi Petch (Exeterr, 2020-03-07)

#243

I’m signing because I fully agree with the need for a safer Woodbury. There have been many occasions when driving around the village, and especially up and down Globe Hill, when I have been tail gated and flashed by drivers travelling too fast.

Philip Hodge (Woodbury , 2020-03-08)

#244

Devon County Council have indicated that nothing is likely to happen until there are two fatalities on this road. On 7.3.2020 we suffered one such fatality. Do we really have to wait for another to happen before anything is done? (My heart goes out to all involved).

Marie Cassidy (Exeter, 2020-03-08)

#246

I'm signing because I have believed for several years now that Woodbury, like the through routes of Topsham and Sidbury, should be under a blanket 20mph speed restriction. This belief relates not just to the safety of pedestrians in a village with many 'blind' and unpaved roads, but to drivers and car owners as well. The other issue of being a 'rat run' is that those speeding, or even choosing not to slow down appropriately within a 30mph zone, create difficulty, tension and irritation in our village living environment where it really should not be an issue. Multiple 'close shaves' when on foot, or driving (typically when emerging from a junction or progressing along a narrow road), or multiple broken wing mirrors and dented car doors, don't register with the highways department, and they don't come near to fulfilling their inhumane demand for two deaths to occur before speed restrictions are imposed.
However I've just been told that someone has actually been killed within the 30mph zone in the last 24 hours...

Sandra Joyce (Woodbury, 2020-03-08)

#248

I visit my daughter quite often in Woodbury and have noticed that most people ignore the 30 mph limit. Something needs to be done. I'm also aware of the recent fatality.

Kathryn Teagle (Brecon, 2020-03-08)

#254

I regularly drive through Woodbury with great care I must add!! But most people have no concept of the 30 mph limit. And now someone has paid the ultimate price 😪

Maureen Metherell (Exeter, 2020-03-08)

#255

I’m signing because not only are cars being damaged but now one person has lost their life in a tragic road accident. This is one life too many

Diane Phaby (Exeter , 2020-03-08)

#259

I love Woodbury, although I don’t live there. The excessive traffic ruins this beautiful village. Help the locals live in peace by doing something to reduce speeding & dangerous driving

Stephanie Jones (Hayle, 2020-03-08)

#261

This lane is used as a rat run by too many people as a bus driver I dread taking my bus through there whither cars flying round the corner exceeding the speed limit.

David Kilby (Exeter , 2020-03-08)

#262

It’s worrying how many people drive too fast up/down Castle lane even more so when going past the school .

Ruth Driesen (Woodbury , 2020-03-08)

#267

I care about all road users and abhore drivers speeding on country lanes in particular.

Roy Sainsbury (Exmouth, 2020-03-08)

#269

Town Lane is another area where before long there will be another fatal road accident. Particularly as eight new houses are to be built with access on to Town Lane via a VERY dangerous narrowing spot!
Do something NOW before it is too late!!!

Robert Gibbins (Woodbury, 2020-03-08)

#276

I lived for 13 years in Woodbury.
The same problem still exists and nothing has been done in all that time.
Traffic needs to slow down through Woodbury.

Clair Apps (Plymouth , 2020-03-08)

#278

Apart from the obvious, I was the victim of a speeding driver when I was a teenager on the same piece of road. Nothing was done then, I hope something is done now

David Lewis (Exmouth, 2020-03-08)

#281

My children attend Woodbury School and Pre school.
I want them to be safe in the village

Sarah Breeze (Exmouth , 2020-03-08)

#285

My Mother lives outside of the village, but on this road, they have asked for the 40 mile an hour sign to be moved further back, but this was not allowed.
Her driveway access onto the road has a restricted vision, so extreme caution has to be made.
There was also a fatality outside her driveway, witnessed by both of us.

Rosemary Jane Brimacombe (Crediton, 2020-03-08)

#286

The speed of traffic going the village of Woodbury is a danger to life

Sheena Hall (Exmouth, 2020-03-08)

#287

The traffic through the village increases during commuter times, many of the roads have no pavement and I am concerned for the safety of residents including myself and my family.

Charis Hughes (Woodbury, 2020-03-08)

#288

I have family who used to live in Woodbury and it was less than safe then, but more so now. How many more people need to die before it is made safer for those wh live there?

Nicola Mansell (Axminster , 2020-03-08)

#290

The roads in and around Woodbury have become increasingly dangerous to the point where vulnerable roads users eapecially, take their life in their hands being on it near some roads. Speed and a disproportionate number of large vehicles are factors particularly thought the village on the Broadway and along the adjoining roads from Woodbury Salterton and Pink House Corner, Lympstone. Road safety measure must be put in place before a serious or fatal accident takes place.

Deborah Percy (Exmouth, 2020-03-09)

#292

I'm signing this because people drive far too quickly through our village, making it unsafe for residents.

Vicki Montague (Woodbury, 2020-03-09)

#293

We need to slow traffic down in Woodbury

Sarah Hales (Woodbury, 2020-03-09)

#296

Far too many vehicles either exceed the speed limit or drive at inappropriate speeds.

David Symonds (Exmouth , 2020-03-09)

#297

Driving behaviour of vehicles travelling through Woodbury needs to be addressed

Joanna Lovejoy (Woodbury , 2020-03-09)

#298

Traffic speeds through Parsonage Lane and onto Greenway from Woodbury Salterton have also become intolerable going past the bus stop and Church Rooms, directly opposite the junction leading up to the school. Parked cars result in drivers having their view of the road totally obscured and it is only by luck that there has never been a fatality caused by a speeding driver here, mothers with children, the elderly, dog walkers, and even the fit dice with death trying to cross the road safely at this junction.
A lower speed limit along this road would make it much safer for everybody.

Lesley Walton (Exeter, 2020-03-09)

#299

I live on Broadway so regularly walk along Broadway and the other roads in Woodbury. My main concern is drivers speeding in the village.

Helen Maiden (Woodbury, 2020-03-09)

#301

This speeding must be stopped - too late when a life is lost

Chris Lear (Exeter , 2020-03-10)

#303

Other counties (eg Warwickshire) have much larger illuminated '30' signs with flashing lights so they can't be missed (eg village of Lower Shuckborough). We need something similar close to the village boundary at both ends of the village. The location of the existing sign is ludicrous and clearly has little effect.

Debby Mullier (Woodbury, 2020-03-10)

#306

I feel very strongly about this. People have now been killed on this road and we need action taken to make this road safer for everyone.

Glen Weir (Exeter, 2020-03-10)

#307

The speed of drivers through and in our village is of great concern, we need to have 20 mile an hour limit, as there are in many other areas of the country.

Sara Hurlock (Exeter, 2020-03-10)

#311

life is precious

Ruth Reuben (Woodbury Salterton, 2020-03-10)

#315

As a resident of Woodbury I am greatly concerned about traffic through the village

Sue Harding (Exeter , 2020-03-11)

#317

My friend has had 3 cars written off now, which is ridiculous.

It is a dangerous road for all users due to the speed drivers travel at.

Now someone has died in Woodbury die to the hazardous driving situation in the village.

Abbi Sage (Newton Abbot , 2020-03-11)

#320

The traffic in Woodbury is getting a lot worse & people drive far too fast. Walking your dog or riding your horse can sometimes be very dangerous as some traffic don’t have any regard for there speed or for the fact that they’re driving through a village with narrow pavements. Something needs to be done before anyone else is killed.

Christine Briers (Woodbury , 2020-03-12)

#321

I love Woodbury and have a long association with the village, with my ancestors was from Woodbury.

Mike Radford (Exeter, 2020-03-12)

#322

I'm signing because I live here. Hopefully I'll die here too but when I'm ready and not when a sppeding motorist says so.

Jeffrey Perry (Woodbury, 2020-03-12)

#324

I'm signing the petition because speeding in the village is such a serious issue and action needs to be taken to slow drivers down.

Catherine Stevens (Woodbury, 2020-03-14)

#326

I have relatives living in Woodbury and visit often. The road through the village is extremely dangerous due to idiots ignoring the speed restrictions I don't know why there are no speed restrictions such as speed humps or chicanes. It's about time the local council woke up and faced reality. Idiots do not take notice of signs, end of.

Stuart Payne (CALLINGTON, 2020-03-15)

#328

I’m fed up with the speeding through our village

Simon Foster-Taylor (Woodbury, 2020-03-16)

#330

I have friends living on Broadway and support that something needs to be done by the volume of traffic and speed of cars travelling through Woodbury. You can hear the cars at night travelling at speed through the village.

Louise Froggatt (Sheffield, 2020-03-18)

#332

Too many dangerous drivers and traffic

Ella Lustrum (Woodbury , 2020-03-20)

#335

I live here and I'm tired of nearly been run over when walking around our village!

Steve Bowden (Exeter, 2020-03-20)

#336

Traffic problems have got a lot worse in the six years since we bought a cottage here. The narrow streets of the village itself should have a 20 mile an hour speed limit

stephen irons (Woodbury, 2020-03-20)

#337

Public safety, and particularly children and the elderly, should be the no.1 priority. In the village (where the roads often don't have pavements) driving at speed is a major problem, and must be addressed.
Presently, drivers speed with impunity, whilst children/elderly (and others) have to take evasive measures. Local authorities appear unwilling or unable to act.
I would support any calming measures that would address this problem (i.e. bumps, 20 mph limit). I note that Topsham and Ebford, locally, are 20 mph areas.
I feel very strongly about this as a parent - and fear the consequences of further inaction on this issue.

William Hopkin (Woodbury, 2020-03-22)

#338

I’m signing this as Myself
and family have all had near misses with speeding traffic, even clipped whilst on pavement due to them being so narrow. Please please install traffic calming measures before it’s to late

Andrew Stephens (Exeter , 2020-03-22)

#339

Traffic is in drastic need of calming through the village centre.

Paul Denton (Woodbury, 2020-03-24)

#340

Something needs to be done all through the village - NOW! I can hardly get out of my property at times, due to illegal parking. I have plenty of photographic evidence to back this claim up, taken over the last three years.

Roger Stokes (Woodbury, 2020-03-24)

#342

I am signing this petition because 1) I live in Woodbury 2) I genuinely believe that a prospective SERIOUS (if not deadly) accident could be PREVENTED by rapidly taking appropriate measures such as strategically positioned speed bumps. 3) I get scared by every day witnessing some vehicles "BARRELLING" down Parsonage Way or other roads into the village at 40 or 50 Mph.

Bruno DALBIEZ (Woodbury, 2020-03-29)

#343

I am a regular visitor to Woodbury village as my best friend lives there, I have seen for myself the increase in traffic, speed & reckless driving that takes place. On my last visit just a few weeks before lockdown I even saw a car in the woods at the bottom of the common that had come off the road.

Justin Parsons (Worcester, 2020-04-02)

#344

The marked increase in speeding and associated reckless overtaking along the length of the B3179 road. Also the lack of double white lines even in residential zones and even on some bind bends. Numerous accidents in recent years associated with the above.

Christopher Woodward (Woodbury, 2020-04-02)

#345

I am fed up with drivers ignoring the 30mph speed limit through our village.

Gordon Davis (Woodbury, 2020-04-16)

#346

Traffic volume is increasing. Drivers disregard the 30 mph speed limit. This has led to many near misses, crashes, badly damaged parked vehicles and most recently a fatality.

Paul Hannan (Woodbury, 2020-05-12)

#347

My family live at Broadway, Woodbury and use a footpath that is approximately one metre wide and where you need to step into the road to pass other pedestrians. The road is narrow and traffic passes within touching distance at speeds generally in excess of 30mph; the speed limit. The speed limit should be 20mph and if it can't be enforced some form of traffic management installed to physically limit the speed to 20mph. I fear that it will take a fatality before there is any action from the highway's authority.

Christopher Stephens (Sidmouth, 2020-06-11)

#348

I am signing because we live on Broadway and it can get very hectic during rush hours. Also it can be very unnerving as people seem to be oblivious of the fact they are driving through the very heart of Woodbury village, as they seem to be doing at least 40 miles an hour when the road is clear to do so. Both my wife and I have been clipped by vehicles whilst walking on the very narrow footpath which runs along parts of Broadway in Woodbury. My young children also get very frightened with the drivers that seem to be rushing to get home or are late for work due to the narrowness of the footpath , there is also some very large lorries and agricultural vehicles hammering through the village at alarming rates, it would not take much in these busy time for this to become catastrophic or fatal.
yours sincerely
Andrew Stephens

Andrew Stephens (Exeter, 2020-06-11)

#350

Speeding traffic on non-A roads is a noise nuisance as well as a danger.

John Levick (Sampford Courtenay, 2020-07-03)

#351

Traffic is getting heavier and many drive too fast through the village putting lives at risk.

Anna Crafer (Woodbury, 2020-08-28)

#352

I care about the lives of the people in the village I grew up in and love. Prevention and proaction are better than dealing with the results of accidents.

Katie Clinton (Nantwich , 2020-08-28)

#354

L adore Woodbury and it’s people, and want it to be more peaceful as I remember it to be many years ago.

Sue Grayson (Somerville, 2020-08-28)

#356

I'm signing because I cross this road several times a day and experience dangerous speeding cars that do not slow down. I have to walk down to the shop on an inadequate narrow pavement with cars speeding passed me . You have to step into the road to let people pass. Finally drivers often do not stop to let you cross at the Zebra crossing. The safety and lives of Woodbury residents should be put first.
