Its my junior year, I'm apart of Renaissance Varsity Choir and I got invited to do an audition to be apart of Renaissance A-Chord, I made it and ever since the school year was over I've been waiting to come back and start singing with this group, now that they've taken away the music I have nothing to look forward to this school year. Why take away the things that make up this school. Whoever decided this is making a huge mistake. Now this school is gonna be like every other DPS and that's not a good thing. The only things that ever stay are basketball, football, and baseball which only consists of a small portion of the students, but the music and dance departments consists of so many students its not hard to notice. Please rethink this whole situation and bring back our music, our dance, our rotating schedule, our clubs and sports.
People want to save detroit, but want to bring down schools. Tsk Tsk.
Renaissance High School has provided quality education for an uncounted amount of young adults that have went into the world and made a difference in countless ways. To provide a quality education in a city that has been as abused as Detroit, is monumental and decreasing the quality of such education will be unchartably detrimental to the future of Detroit and surrounding communities.
I have been an exchange student at RHS, and i found the school incredibly amazing. This was due to the entire spirit at the school, which was shaped because of not only the great teachers, but also because of the variety in subjects such as arts. I myself had choir when there which i found great!
The rotating schedule had such a positive effect, that it can not and must not be taken away. It made one day different from the other, and i'm sure that that has such positive effects which must not be underestimated.

I sign up for dance and I cant get it because of them removing programs. Thats not fair for the people who like and want dance.
There are too many talented students to let programs like the arts and athletics die.
Our schools and are youth are not able to succeed unless they are able to grow in a freeing and supportive environment, and if they are nurtured to be the best they can be. That is the Renaissance way. We cannot have a college-preparatory environment that is not focusing on fully growing our youth into well-rounded citizens. Our students work hard, and fight hard, to be in an environment that has promised to do right by them. Let us continue to do so.
I am completely horrified to hear the extent of what is happening at the place that I spent 4 years of my life growing, changing and becoming part of the person I am today. To cut the visual and performing arts programs from Renaissance High School will destroy the spirit of what this institution has pioneered for decades as beacon of higher education in the city of Detroit. Giving young people the ability to express themselves creatively is a crucial part of development and opens their minds to a world of endless possibilities. Please support #SaveRHS and know that I will do all I can to stop this from happening.
