AWG Closing Report and Thanks

2021-12-06 19:07:00

Dear Supporters,

We are writing with belated thanks for your invaluable support for our campaign in May 2021 to defund/boycott CFCCA and to call it and Arts Council England to account. Since then, CFCCA has commissioned an internal audit report and developed an action plan to address its failures. However, both these documents have not been disclosed to us or the public.

We are confused about why even a redacted version has not been published and are concerned by the continued lack of transparency by CFCCA.  ACE has had sight of both documents but tell us that they are not in a position to reveal anything.

However, CFCCA has published an Executive Summary of their internal audit report and today we have responded with our Closing Report.

The Closing Report will update you on CFCCA’s and ACE’s final responses to our 5 demands. It will also explain why we think that CFCCA is irredeemable as an organisation and that their internal audit has not gone far enough. We also briefly set out future plans for convening a consensus-building nationwide Town Hall meeting where we can imagine together what a better arts ecosystem can be for East and Southeast Asian artistic practice.

We would also like to announce that this report represents our final expression about CFCCA as a group, and also marks the formal disbanding of AWG. But we will of course take what we have learnt in this campaign and go forward, transform, reincarnate and cross, zs3-pollinate with other people, ideas and projects to create the landscape needed for us to thrive.

This work has been hard and your support has been crucial in keeping us going (and adding pressure on the organisation). We hope that this process has also highlighted how important our collective voices can be, and although the work is not finished, we hope that a more distributed pro-active holding to account may be generated by our collective actions.

Thank you thank you again.

Yours sincerely,

The Artist Working Group
