Petition against power cable theft in Germiston

We, the residents of Ward 39, Ward 35, Ward 37, hereby petition the City Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi and the MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy, Cllr Manemela, to urgently secure the power cables at the main incoming power feed at Germiston Tech Substation. Early warning detection systems must be put in place as well as tighter security measures to prevent the constant cable theft at this location leaving Residents of the three wards without power for days on end.

In the past four months, cables have been stolen from this site on six times.  Namely: 8 June 2023, 10 July 2023, 31 July 2023, 2 August 2023, 10 August 2023 and 14 September 2023.  This is costing the Ciity of Ekurhuleni an enormous amount of money that is much needed in other areas of service delivery.
