Geoff Hamilton worked so hard to create this garden and Nick has carried it on it mustn’t be forced close

Josephine Brisbourne (Brentwood, 2023-02-22)

#1003

Renewable energy is important but the impact of them on local communities should be considered where they are sited as they are an eyesore.

Ralph Henderson (BEDFORD, 2023-02-22)

#1005

Barnsdale is iconic, and needs to be preserved x

Helen Merrifield (Truro, 2023-02-22)

#1006

I love these gardens and the environment that it provides for many insects animals and people. Great for well being and mental health

Lauren Barker (Nottingham , 2023-02-22)

#1009

We need to get the balance right between future investment in sustainable energy sources against protecting local areas of outstanding natural interest. This development would not be in the right area.

John Meachem (Leicester, 2023-02-23)

#1011

I have been visiting Barnsdale regularly for many years and I know it well. No one could ever tire of visiting this lovely place at any time of year. The loss of such an inspirational and irreplaceable haven would be nothing short of a travesty.

Margaret Sanders (Leicester, 2023-02-23)

#1014

It would be terrible for this development to go ahead so close to the gardens.

Marilyn Moore (Nottingham, 2023-02-24)

#1017

I can’t imagine not being able to visit this beautiful spot. I have nothing against solar farms, but surely with a little site adjustment, both things could work for the benefit of all.

Joy Harris (Peterborough, 2023-02-25)

#1018

These gardens need to be preserved and the solar energy field plans threaten this

Laura Clipsham-Hughes (Market Harborough, 2023-02-25)

#1020

Because I have been visiting this garden for years. Part of the history.

Krishna Lawrence (Sevenoaks, 2023-02-25)

#1022

There are a million suitable sites for solar farms including hundreds of huge, flat roofed warehouses, that would not have a negative impact on such a fantastic local attraction. Why risk Barnsdale Gardens??

Rob Coghlan (Oakham, 2023-02-25)

#1024

Barnsdale Gardens is an important horticultural site offering inspiration and guidance to gardeners. It is unique

Dawn Knighton (Ilkeston, 2023-02-25)

#1026

Barnsdale was always so special and I believe we should try to keep it so, as a haven of peace.

Hugh Norman (Grefrath, 2023-02-26)

#1027

I am signing this petition because I think solar panels should be put on the rooves of buildings not to use up farmland

Sally Brough (NORTHWOOD, 2023-02-26)

#1028

Barnsdale has historical as well as educational and horticultural interest. It would be a huge loss to the gardening community.

Beryl Simpson (Meols, 2023-02-26)

#1030

I'm signing because this is an area of great beauty, both from the beauty of farmland and the beauty of Nature. There is a sense of tranquillity in the area, which an industrial site like the proposed solar farm would absolutely destroy..... We, the Human Beings, need such peacefulness to be strongly fought for and maintained in this inceasingly crowded island...

John Rees (Over, Cambridge, 2023-02-27)

#1031

Solar farms use up agricultural land.

Philip Mayfield (Nottingham, 2023-02-27)

#1033

Barnsdale Gardens is both a Rutland and National treasure for gardeners and non-gardeners alike. Understand the need for solar panel energy but surely there is more than enough suitable open fields in Rutland and surrounding areas.

Mike Harman (Whissendine, 2023-02-27)

#1036

I learned how to garden from Geoff Hamilton and have had so much pleasure over the years from visiting his gardens at Barnsdale. Their tranquillity should not be disturbed.

Susan Wallace (Ledbury, 2023-02-28)

#1037

Kim signing because Barnsdale Gardens is a special place and should be protected. We go there to walk through the beautiful gardens, to enjoy the peace and tranquility and listen to the birdsong and the many soothing water features

I have visited Barnsdale gardens over many years - a very peaceful location. Also ridden around Rutland water and enjoyed the Rural location. The proposed Solar Farm will have a detrimental effect on the location which will ruin the area for future visitors!

John Cawrey (Loughborough, 2023-03-02)

#1041

there must be better sites than this

mike turner (burntwood staffs, 2023-03-02)

#1042

I had the pleasure to visit this wonderful garden on route to Norfolk during the visit i met Nick Hamilton and enjoyed a chat about his father and how he inspired me to become a better gardener..

Clive Dennis (Llanelli, 2023-03-03)

#1046

It’s an wonderful garden and a touching memorial to the late Geoff Hamilton, an inspirational and pioneering gardener.

Elizabeth Kavanagh (Addlestone , 2023-03-04)

#1049

As the largest individually designed gardens in Britain, this site is an inspiration and a land mark in the Rutaland area. There are large number of visitors, yearly, that contribute to the money that is spent in the Rutland area.

Michael Noakes (Oakham , 2023-03-05)

#1056

There are plenty of more suitable and remote fields that are more suited to a solar farm and will not force the closure of the lovely Barnsdale Gardens. Please use common sense and reconsider the location.

Clare Horscroft (Twickenham, 2023-03-08)

#1057

I'm signing because we need places like Barnsdale Gardens to be able to visit places of beauty and gardens which ultimately make us all feel wonderful

Clare Underwood (Whitwell, 2023-03-08)

#1058

I’m signing because solar panels should be placed on top of buildings, car parks etc not green fields!!

Christine Burt (Epping , 2023-03-08)

#1059

We cannot keep losing our open spaces/agricultural land.
A better alternative must be sort.

Steven Shilcock (Leicester, 2023-03-08)

#1060

This would be damaging to Barnstable. There must be other places to use which wouldn’t blight the beauty we love.

Jane Brown (Ipswich , 2023-03-08)

#1065

I really don't want Barnsdale Gardens peace and wildlife spoilt by Exton Energy .

CHRISTINE ALLOTT (Great Hatfield, Hull,, 2023-03-10)

#1067

Solar panels belong on buildings, not fields. Barnsdale is suvh a lovely place to visit.

Katharine Wright (Nottingham , 2023-03-12)

#1069

This is the most special garden - I remember talking to Nick about his wonderful father - and I bought a euonymus alatus on his recommendation for it’s lovely autumn colour. A constant reminder of a fabulous garden - and family both of which MUST be saved for us all. Why propose a solar farm in such a sensitive location?!

Su Elsden (Blandford Forum, 2023-03-12)

#1070

It's impossible to think that Barnsdale Gardens should be under threat because of plans to build a solar farm and should be stopoed in its tracks. This is an institution loved by many, far and wide. Equally, there are many other empty fields, far and wide in Rutland, without spoiling something like this which is good for the soul. BACK OFF!

Sue Ward (Empingham, 2023-03-12)

#1071

The gardens are a real inspiration and a lovely place to visit for young and old alike , and those older ones amongst us remember with the fondest affection Geoff Hamilton who hosted the TV series from which the gardens were planned and built. The gardens after many years are still inspiring gardeners of the younger generation who can see just what can be done with the small plots now provided with new properties. The cafe and tea rooms are wonderful and make a garden visit complete. It would be a very sad day were we to loose this wonderful place.

Annette Howett (Leicester , 2023-03-12)

#1072

Barnsdale should not have to close because of profit makers.

Chsrles Conlon (Peterborough, 2023-03-13)

#1073

I do not understand why permission would be given for the placement of a solar farm next door to Barnsdale Gardens, a place of peace and tranquility for humans and wildlife. There must be many other fields in the area that could be used for a solar farm that would not cause such upset to this beautiful place.

Margaret Penney (Gosport, 2023-03-13)

#1074

I support Nick Hamilton in trying to preserve the beauty and tranquility of the land surrounding Barnsdale Gardens. I also support his trying to stop his business and home being adversely affected by such a monumental blot on the landscape. I know this beautiful area very well, having lived near Rutland Water, and am deeply disturbed by the news of this proposed development.
I truly believe that so called ‘eco’ companies and developers quote climate change and government targets cynically in order to railroad developments through the planning process, ultimately to make money. Very poor decisions are being made in this country and it is necessary to make a stand.

Sue Smith (Ludlow, 2023-03-14)

#1075

The peace and tranquility of Barnsdale Gardens needs protecting

Darryl Davidson (Preston, 2023-03-14)

#1078

I’m signing because I wish to help save a valuable asset in the gardens and because whilst solar farms can help the energy crisis the location chosen would blight the beautiful area of countryside as well as damaging the visitor experience.

Alan Miller (Huntingdon, 2023-03-15)

#1079

I agree with the aims of the petition

Marian Barnes-Smith (Cumbria , 2023-03-15)

#1081

I think it is appalling that they are even considering putting a solar farm next to these beautiful gardens. They are the legacy of Geoff Hamilton who worked so hard and will never be forgotten through this garden. Please find another site and let his son carry on his hard work,he is doing an amazing job.

Shirley Parkinson (Preston , 2023-03-16)

#1085

With all the evidence pointing at how good gardening is for people both mentally and physically, to destroy a resource that helps and encourages people to garden is wrong

Christine Murphy (Crowland , 2023-03-17)

#1086

I'm against the petition.

Susan Fairclough (Oakham, 2023-03-17)

#1091

My family's connections to Barnsdale Garden.

Reginald Barnsdale (pace, 2023-03-17)

#1092

Barnsdale Gardens has spent decades building and maintaining a wonderful slice of British gardening; providing real practical and achievable advice, and examples of how we can garden to support not only our wildlife (via organic methods and thoughtful planning) but our mental health.
The noise from the wind farm and change to the neighbouring environment would seriously affect both the wildlife and experience of visiting this site.

Linda Backhouse (Oakham, 2023-03-18)

#1094

I would love for Barnsdales Gardens to stay open. We are hoping to go in May for a visit for our first anniversary and it looks beautiful. It would be a shame if it has to close in the future

Emma Chester (BOSTON, 2023-03-18)

#1095

I do believe in renewable but not at the expense of an organic peat free nursery like Barnsdale. There are many other non-disruptive sites.

Tejpal Singh Shergill (Brigstock, 2023-03-18)

#1100

As a frequent visitor to Barnsdale's award winning gardens I strongly oppose the development of a solar farm by Exton Energy. The peace ,tranquility ,wildlife haven and refuge from the intrusive noise of modern day living afforded by Barnsdale has been a local treasure and life line ,both for visitors from the East Midlands and also much further afield.Geoff would have been most dismayed at this change of land usage proposal as is Nick, who has continued his father's legacy.
I wholeheartedly support this petition and trust that further consideration will be given to the planning proposal .

My wife and I are frequent visitors to the garden and it is an important resource both locally and nationally, giving insights into inspiration to gardeners. It’s also one of Rutlands only prime tourist attractions.

Andrew Forbes (Uppingham , 2023-03-22)

#1110

I believe the gardens should be saved

Angela Simpson (Dersingham, 2023-03-23)

#1111

I love the inspiration for small gardens that most of us need! Most people can’t possibly replicate large gardens. I travel from Edinburgh a couple of times a year to visit and be inspired. Please don’t force it to close. It would be a massive loss.

Marion Strachan (Edinburgh, 2023-03-23)

#1113

I object to this development. Day to its location.

John Whitaker (Inverness, 2023-03-25)

#1115

I’m signing this because Barnsdale is a unique place with a special history linked to the BBC gardeners world programme. It not only provides ideas and inspiration for gardeners of all levels of skill and experience but also provides a huge variety of vital habitats for wildlife.

Places like this also provide opportunities for people to find peace, beauty and comfort within the intimate garden spaces as they appreciate the stunning planting.

Barnsdale also brings many people to Rutland, a relatively unknown area of the country, which in turn impacts positively on the economy of the local area.

For all these reasons, I believe It would be a huge loss.

Caroline Watson (Stamford , 2023-03-25)

#1116

#1118

Ridiculous idea to ruin this garden

Peter Siromolot (Finchampstead, 2023-03-26)

#1121

Whilst in favour of solar projects, I understand there are better sites available which will not spoil the peace at Barnsdale Gardens

Jacqueline Watt (Harpenden, 2023-03-26)

#1122

This exceptional garden would be affected by the solar farm and have to close. This would be dreadful .

Mary York (Lincoln, 2023-03-26)

#1123

This is such an important facility to encourage people to begin and develop as gardeners.

Patrick Kinsella (Francheville, 2023-03-26)

#1126

I am signing because the gardens are a valuable resource to wildlife and nature as we as being inspirational to new gardeners.
Also because I have happy memories of visiting with my parents, fond memories.

Shan Evans (Hornchurch, 2023-03-26)

#1127

I believe this would be in the best interest of the gardens especially as they could put the solar farm in a different place that would not have a detrimental effect on the gardens.

Linda White (London, 2023-03-26)

#1128

The gardens need saving

David Rhodes (Rotherham, 2023-03-26)

#1130

Should be a national treasure

Angela Clampitt (Leighton Buzzard, 2023-03-26)

I know the history of Barnsdale and why should it have to close in the name of progress. Put the solar farm somewhere else!

Diana Boarer (Cambridge , 2023-03-26)

#1141

I’m signing because of the wonderful gardens and the importance of Geoff Hamilton’s legacy is immeasurable, he was a champion of sustainability. It’s importance as a nature haven and valuable resource to the vicinity cannot be under estimated.

Christine Hayter (Bournemouth, 2023-03-26)

#1142

I don't see that it is necessary to site this farm close to a leisure amenity.
The noise and ongoing traffic would be more suited to a more remote location.

Martin Gossage (Desborough , 2023-03-26)

#1143

I am signing because this garden is an inspiration and a hot to visit.

Stephen Benjamin (Sheffield, 2023-03-26)

Carol Sinnott (Frome, 2023-03-26)

#1148

I'm signing not because I'm against solar energy but because Barnsdale is a fine example of what we can all achieve to support our food supplies in the 21st century as well as contributing to our national mental well-being.

Frank Shenton (Stone, 2023-03-26)

#1149

It is too precious to loose

John Lane (RHYL, 2023-03-26)

#1150

If there are other alternative places to put the solar farm that is not going to effect Barnsdale Gardens or any other place of significance, then it should be put elsewhere. Solar farms & other renewal energy farms are great for the planets future, but not if the are going to destroy the already amazing places we already have.

Donna Shiels (Harrow, 2023-03-26)

#1151

These gardens are too important to loose, they are for the benefit of gardeners throughout the U K, giving them inspiration to how to improve their own garden.

Dennis Young (Blaydon, 2023-03-26)

Valerie St Hill (Cambridge, 2023-03-26)

Robert Moore (Nottingham , 2023-03-26)

I feel it is important that large companies that upset the balance of rural areas need to be stopped from developing near our swiftly diminishing beauty spots especially when there are more appropriate sites available.

Alison Hutchinson (Skipton, 2023-03-26)

#1173

It would be foolish to site the panels in current proposed area . It would be detrimental to the area in closing such a valuable resource to local and visitor knowledge of growing food, flowers and ecology; of local economy, of long established business and jobs. Please reconsider.

Roberta Matthews (Evesham, 2023-03-26)

#1177

Linda Vince (Fareham , 2023-03-26)

#1188

The noise will adversely affect the wildlife that lives with in the garden.

Claire Backhouse (Penzance , 2023-03-27)

#1189

Barnsdale Gardens is a wonderful resource for gardeners and promotes organic principles of flower and vegetable growing. The solar farm would interfere with the enjoyment of the gardens and would be better sited elsewhere

This development would be to the detriment of Barnsdale, the Geoff Hamilton heritage garden.
