Stop the solar farm next to Barnsdale Gardens

Barnsdale Gardens is such a valuable oasis of calm and tranquility in a beautiful setting . We visit frequently with my 94 year old mother who loves the gardens and peace. Please don't spoil this gem . She already has another vast solar farm scheduled on her doorstep at Essendine on prime agricultural land. Renewable energy is important , but why on prime agricultural land , with all the new build going on surely there is a way to incorporate the renewables within these developments instead of eroding the green spaces and tranquility that are so important to mental well being and wildlife

Solar panels should be on roofs of all public buildings and all new houses.

When is over development of the countryside going to stop.
Build on Brownfield sites.
The UK is full of them.
Please stop bowing to pressure from people only interested in making a quick buck.

Ian Sumner (Rutland, 2022-08-22)

#423

It is totally unacceptable to threaten local businesses and cause loss of amenity in this way. Rather than take valuable land for solar farms, why not legislate to have them on the roofs of ALL Government, Local Authority and forces roofing, together with all commercial building rooftops. Grow crops in the fields.

Guy Howard (Woodford, 2022-08-24)

#427

It woud be hugely detrimental to this wonderful resource for nature.
The founder Geoff Hamilton, inspired people throughout the world to follow his example of sustainable organic gardening, many of whom still make it a pigrimage to visit this exceptional location. This proposed solar farm does not belong here.

Ann Narducci (Market Harborough, 2022-08-24)

#431

This is a nationally important garden and needs to be preserved for all to enjoy.

I'm signing because I am a gardener from NZ and have studied the merits of Barnsdale Gardens and all the good they do for the community.

Katie Hopkins (Christchurch, 2022-08-29)

#443

We do not want Barnsdale gardens to close or be ruined by a solar farm. These gardens are a haven for wildlife and peace and tranquility for humans and our mental health

Michelle Maddren (Oakham, 2022-08-29)

#448

We need more green areas and agricultural land NOT solar farms.
The UK is too small for solar farms, If the government insist on more solar they need to provide more options to put it on the roofs of every household and businesses across the land.

Christian Nichol (Easton on the Hill , 2022-08-29)

#450

Barnsdale Gardens is a unique place, and absolutely invaluable for nature and for the benefit of the thousands of people who visit every year. These solar panels would be calamitous for this wonderful venue and probably force its closure.

Gill Russell (Tring, 2022-08-29)

#453

Any mechanical sound would be to the detriment of this nationally important garden

Celia Purdy (Leicester, 2022-08-29)

GREEN ENERGY IS NOT GREEN.

Les Doe (Reigate, 2022-08-29)

#457

While we need renewable energy for the present an future we do not have to destroy the past especially if other sires are available. There is a need to protect nature.

David Amos (Stoke on Trent , 2022-08-31)

#459

This is a waste of much needed farmland. The production of food close to home is now more important than ever and will be so in the future. To sacrifice this land for what is an erratic electric supply is short sighted in the extreme.

Phyllis Dentith (Oakham, 2022-08-31)

#460

As a visitor and supporter of these beautiful gardens to think of them closing and the legacy of their founder being lost is unthinkable

Paul Watkins (Leamington Spa, 2022-08-31)

#463

I'm signing because, like Nick Hamilton, whilst I am all for renewable, Barnsdale Gardens is a lovely tranquil spot where nature thrives. It is also a major tourist attraction and a legacy to his father. Use a different field.

Louise Newall (Melton Mowbray, 2022-09-01)

#464

An eyesore in a picturesque area enjoyed and loved by locals and visitors alike. Please find a more suitable place

Jacqueline Willingham (Stamford , 2022-09-01)

#465

This is outrageous. Solar panels of roofs not on farm land.

#467

As vital as renewable energy is, there are better local fields to place this where the constant noise of the motorised panels, as they follow the sun, will not be the overriding factor ruining the peace for our visitors and wildlife and may force the closure of Barnsdale Gardens.

Derek Dancy (OAKHAM, 2022-09-01)

#469

wind farms do not supply all the time.

chris dekker (kettering, 2022-09-02)

#477

This will be a disaster for Barnsdale Gardens, neighbours, wildlife, agriculture if built in this position.

#481

My children and grandchildren live adjacent to this site and I do not wish their health to be damaged for no good reason.

Rachel Holland (Tadley , 2022-09-02)

#482

Barnsdale is far too important to lose. As well as a beautiful garden, it's a valuable resourse for all gardeners, especially those of us with ordinary houses and gardens. Showing what can be achieved with a modest budget in a modest space. It's also a beautiful piece of UK gardening history and a tribute to one of the 20th centuries finest gardeners

Jacky Avery (Leicester, 2022-09-02)

#484

I think to build such a place next to homes is irresponsible, inconsiderate, a health risk both physically and mentally and unfair. Solar farms could be better placed on places such as motorway service stations rooftops, or government buildings that do not adversely effect anyone or further destroy the our countryside and nature, or take away valuable farmland which can help feed our ever growing population. In this case, the negatives to the site outweigh the positives.

Laura Curtis (Twickenham, 2022-09-02)

#485

I’m signing because I think the solar farm should not be built in this area. Rutland water is an area of outstanding natural beauty which will be spoilt by these solar farms. There are much better places like brown field sites which would be a better for a solar farm. I agree that renewable energy is the future but where it is placed must be considered carefully.

Mary Cox (Much Wenlock, 2022-09-02)

#486

Because I believe there is plenty of waste land about for solar farms without using our countryside.

Stephen Glynn (Birmingham , 2022-09-02)

#487

Due to the negative impact it would have on all those living and working close by, especially along Barnsdale Avenue, I think the proposed site should be reconsidered and a brown field site (e.g beside a major road) proposed instead.

Jane Johnson (Exton , 2022-09-02)

#491

This project seems to be proposed in the wrong place. Find a brownfield site or somewhere that it does not impact wildlife, people’s homes and farmland.

JULIE NORMAN (Oakham, 2022-09-03)

#493

I'm signing because I know the area well and visit regularly, greatly appreciating the natural beauty. It seems abhorrent that this unique and valuable space in England could be forever lost, especially if alternative sites are available.

David Patrick (Colchester , 2022-09-03)

#496

This is an obscene disruption to the beauty and nature of this area. There plenty of nearby brownfield sites where solar farms could be located

Tara Margulies (London, 2022-09-03)

#497

Barnsdale show some of the very best gardens in the UK, the love for Geoff Hamilton and his teachings have stayed with many thousands of people in the UK AND SHOULD NOT BE LOST!
The solar energy is important but not at the cost of closing this very important site.
If you love gardening then please sign the petition!

STEVE ILLSLEY (YARWELL, 2022-09-03)

#498

These gardens are too important to be abandoned.

Heather Cronley (Witney, 2022-09-03)

#500

I don't want to lose a vital piece of gardening history

#502

A public eyesore in the wrong location

Philippa Last (LONDON, 2022-09-03)

#505

A solar farm of this size is not suitable for the proposed site in Exton. The look and size of it is totally out of keeping with the surrounding area and should not be given permission to go ahead.

Phil Henderson (Uppingham, 2022-09-04)

#507

Because Harry Campden isn’t the sharpest tool in the box and should know better!

Mark Copping (Oakham, Rutland, 2022-09-04)

#509

It's a travesty to build such a huge solar farm right next door to such a tranquil garden visited by thousands every year. No doubt it would drive away need and butterflies which are in decline.

Anne Beach (HAXBY, YORK, 2022-09-04)

#510

inappropriate site

Derek Palmer (Exton, Oakham, 2022-09-05)

#515

This is the wrong site for a large solar farm. It's going to look like water in certain lights, while on a main osprey migration route. Solar panels should be sited on roofs - there are already enough empty ones to fuel all our power needs!

Sally Cunningham (Leics, 2022-09-06)

#517

I have an annual pass for Barnsdale and love the peaceful atmosphere and all the birdsong and other wildlife and beautiful plants

Margaret Freeman (Leicester , 2022-09-06)

#518

It's a grossly inappropriate site and they're looking to doing the cheap

Lorraine Cash (Exton, 2022-09-06)

#520

Barnsdale Gardens is a superb site of significant horticultural merit but also historically significant nationally for all the work the late Geoff Hamilton did to encourage much wider interest in gardening nationally, a legacy that his son Nick has valiantly kept alive.

Steffie Shields (Grantham, 2022-09-06)

#521

I love Barnsdale gardens as a place of great peace and beauty, created with so much love, patience and care over many years. Please don't destroy the tranquility of this vital amenity for mental well-being and it's contribution to the local economy as a key visitor attraction!

Caroline Freeman (Leicester, 2022-09-06)

#523

Renewable energy is vital for our future but other more suitable places can be found.. Please don’t trash Geoff Hamilton’s legacy.

Carolyn Andrews (Warrington , 2022-09-07)

#526

I cannot believe this. Much as I approve of renewable energy sources, putting a solar farm on such an extensive acreage of land and right next door to what has become one of the best loved gardens in the country is absolute sacrilege. Even if the propose site was not so close to Barnsdale, surely eating up so much land is just as detrimental to the environment as using fossil fuels. What on earth will this do for either people's physical health or mental well being? Nothing at all. Another energy company after big profits. There isn't anyway that this company would want to do this other than for vast profits. True they will have to invest but these companies do not invest without the carrot of huge returns. I hope that the Authorities in Rutland do not even think about allowing this to go ahead. The thought of all that land being covered by solar panels and next to such a wonderful asset as Barnsdale is truly abhorrent.

Christine Elding (Manchester, 2022-09-07)

#531

It's a no-brainer - beautiful gardens must be kept going and growing at all costs.

Graham Andrews (Bideford , 2022-09-07)

#532

Using farmland for solar panels is a criminal waste of food producing land. Panels should be on all new-builds. Blighting the countryside (especially next to iconic, beautiful gardens) should not be allowed. Green spaces MUST be protected for future generations.

Shelagh Yeomans (Tregaron , 2022-09-08)

#535

Solar Panels need to go on every roof, not on green fields.

Merryll Hills (Llanddewi Brefi, 2022-09-08)

#536

I'm all for solar farms and renewable energy, but they need to be sited with more care and sensitivity to their surroundings.

Ballard Anna (Tregaron, 2022-09-08)

#537

Barksdale is a very significant garden which it is important to keep and should not be threatened by a solar farm

Moira Taylor (Lincoln, 2022-09-08)

#543

I have many special memories visiting the gardens with my family

Honour Smith (Peterborough, 2022-09-10)

#547

I love Barnsdale Gardens and would hate for them to have to close.

Melanie Knibbs (Kings Lynn, 2022-09-11)

#550

Barnsdale Gardens is a precious place-a place of beauty peace and inspiration to many. I am an artist and have visited the gardens for many years often weekly with their beauty inspiring a number of my paintings. It is a quiet place that I go to to recharge and to have the space and peace to recharge and inspire my creativity. It has been my safe space during the covid pandemic the only place I went to. It is precious to me and many many others. Whilst I absolutely want to see more renewable energy this is not the place for this development. Next to a jewel in the crown both locally but also nationally

CHARRON PUGSLEY-HILL (PETERBOROUGH, 2022-09-12)

#552

Whilst solar energy is very important it should not be the cause of closing a beautiful and valuable garden. The uk has many sites which are suitable for solar energy, this is not one of them

Lynnette Parvez (London , 2022-09-13)

#553

we need to preserve the peace and tranquility in this ever increasing noisy country.

Anastazia Burwitz (ROYSTON, 2022-09-14)

#556

Barnsdale is an institution and there must be many better locations for this proposed solar farm which would be less intrusive.

Studioartist Marina (CORBY, 2022-09-14)

#561

Barnsdale Gardens is well established with mature gardens providing many visitors peace and relaxation in a tranquil setting. Wildlife is also an important consideration as the many species of flowers and plants provide sanctuary for so many species.

Ian French (Liverpool , 2022-09-15)

#566

I am signing this petition to support Mr Hamilton and the team at Barnsdale Gardens and the wider need to conserve peace for the wildlife and plant diversity in the area.
Whilst understanding the need for alternative power blanket coverage of our green spaces is not the whole answer but an "Easy Fix". Far better if government legislated for all new homes to have solar panels fitted as standard by the builders -something that should have been done years ago.

Shirley Campbell (Stamford , 2022-09-18)

#569

This is a beautiful site, it has taken years to establish, Years of hard work and dedication, years of memories. How can it be fair to destroy yet more nature, jobs and dreams.

Rosemary Starkey (Peterborough , 2022-09-18)

#570

I am signing because Barnsdale gardens has such a wonderful history my late father and myself watched gardeners world with Geoff Hamilton together and instilled in me a great love of gardening.

#572

I want to protect Barnsdale Gardens

Christine Davoile (Coventry, 2022-09-18)

In memory of Geoffrey Hamilton and to preserve the heritage of his garden. There are numerous fields to site solar panels, there is only one .

Brian Noble (Banbury, 2022-09-19)

#577

Barnsdale is an amazing place which must not be compromised in any way

Julian Oxley (Gloucester, 2022-09-20)

#578

Barnsdale Gardens are so important to the legacy of one of the most influential gardeners in my lifetime, Geoff Hamilton

David Burton (Lincoln , 2022-09-20)

#579

Surely what Barnsdale Gardens does to encourage gardening and protecting wildlife should never be put at risk from such large project in the name of renewable energy..

Andrew Watson (Nuneaton , 2022-09-21)

#586

I am signing because it will completely destroyl the atmosphere in the garden at Barnsdale which is so necessary for the visitors. It is a place where peace and quiet is essential and it would spoil the enjoyment of visitors. Especially those who are visiting for their mental health or to grieve.

Matthew Biggs (St Albans, 2022-09-21)

#587

It would be completely unacceptable to allow this to happen to an area of gardening history. I sincerely hope this petition wins and puts a stop to the solar farm that could go anywhere else bare here.

Karl Mace (Northampton , 2022-09-22)

#588

Solar panels on good arable food producing land is as wrong as using it for housing. Definitely not the right site next to a tourist attraction that is very green.

Howard Drury (Birmingham, 2022-09-22)

#592

Barnsdale gardens is an immense beauty and nature attraction. It should be a tranquil place to visit without external noise

Sandra Brown (Milton Keynes , 2022-09-23)

#593

I love to visit Barnsdale

Theresa Staddon (HUNTINGDON, 2022-09-23)

#595

Barnsdale is a peaceful and beautiful place, the solar farm will spoil this. Please relocate the solar farm to a more suitable location.

Jane Heynes (Wellingborough , 2022-09-24)

#596

Because i love barnsdale gardens!

Irina Elliott (Leicester , 2022-09-24)

#599

I have over two dozen pv panels and an array of solar tubes , placed on the south facing roofs of buildings. My land remains open for agriculture. It is far more efficient to do it my way. If Exton Energy want to find out how it works , I am happy to advise .
