In this time of extreme cost of living crisis changing uniform is an unnecessary financial burden on families already struggling to make ends meet. Families typically pass uniform items down to younger siblings or friends or relatives, this change of uniform alone is bad enough but to deny a transition period shows no understanding or compassion for the majority of families now struggling to make ends meet. Neither is it community or environmentally friendly, no one wants to buy outdated school logo Uniforms in a charity shop. This is total disregard for struggling families, the community or environment. If the head of the school or head of academy schools are u able to recognise and correct this, they are not suitable leaders for our children, this country’s next generation!

My children go to this school and changing the logo from blue to white was totally unnecessary and just ridiculous, i don't have girls but the price of that ugly skirt would mean i would send them in in shorts!

My child is going into year 8. Last September I spent a fortune on new uniform, only to have it changed and then when she's year 9, there's another change as she'll be in upper school

Has I have two children in this school both needing full new school clothes

Charlene Morrison (Bristol, 2022-07-08)

#12

I have twins who will be going into year 8 then the uniform changes again in year 9 will cost me £100 just for polo tops and jumpers and thats just one jumper each and monkhouse are useless

Kelly Hill (Kingswood, 2022-07-08)

#15

It’s true monkhouse is dreadful and so expensive it hard to have two kids in secondary now and have electric and everything and the grant for 25 is a slap in the face

Amy Williams (Kingswood, 2022-07-08)

#26

As people finding it hard to make ends meet making them pay over the odds for uniforms is unacceptable

I want a fairer more affordable better quality uniform not changes that increase cost while refusing to listen to parents concerns

Hannah Patterson (Bristol, 2022-07-11)

#43

I think it's disgusting that non branded uniform isn't allowed...I can't afford the uniform for secondary school. And the uniform needs to allow for boys to wear shorts in hot weather too!

Zoe Morgan (Kingswood, Bristol, 2022-07-11)

#47

I have 2 school age children and branded uniform is expensive and should be made cheaper for all schools and we should also have more shops available who sell branded school uniform.

Gemma Coles (Bristol, 2022-07-12)

#49

My daughter is going into year 11 (who originally didn’t have to wear the new uniform and could continue to wear the old one due to the time remaining at the school) but it has since changed. I cannot believe we are expected to buy a whole new uniform for the few months they have left.

Kate Comley (Bristol, 2022-07-12)

#51

School uniform shop's are monopolising on a basic need, parents are being held responsible by schools for not getting the correct uniform.this needs to change.

Warren Beer (Bristol, 2022-07-12)

#56

I’d love to be able to know what’s going on, as changes so much, just stick to same thing affordable and smart so very one can afford the same as everyone else

Gill Board (Kingswr, 2022-07-12)

#58

I have three children at the school and I am beyond disappointed by the constant changes of uniform and, more importantly, the terrible service and quality of clothing that I have experienced with Monkhouse and the previous suppliers

Fay Woodleigh (Bristol, 2022-07-12)

#59

Enough is enough and the school won’t listen

Simon Gillett (Bristol , 2022-07-12)

#60

I am a parent, the policy on uniforms and where these can be purchased must be changed. The current supplier has the monopoly, is not providing a satisfactory service/product and is overpriced

Robert Woodleigh (Bristol, 2022-07-12)

#61

My Daughter is going into year 11 and I think it’s unacceptable that I have to get her a brand new uniform for her last year. It would be so much better for people if you started the new uniform for every year 7 only. It would be a bit different if you changed just one thing, but the whole uniform?
Even without a cost of living crisis, people just can’t afford a whole new uniform.

Francine Gillett (Bristol, 2022-07-12)

#63

My daughter is going into Yr 11 and it is an absolute waste of money to purchase new uniform for her last year, especially as her current uniform will see her through. I have written to school 3 times and had no response!

Ayshea Ware (Bristol, 2022-07-12)

#65

I’m signing because this affects my granddaughter who will be in year 11 it’s a complete waste of money to make this change especially with the cost of living rises parents don’t need this added expense.

Yvonne Rich-Crews (Somerset , 2022-07-12)

#66

In the current financial climate I think branded/logo school clothes at a crazy cost are unacceptable.

James Greaves (Bristol, 2022-07-12)

#70

My grandaugter attends the school . Whilst I agree with uniforms this has nothing to do with smartness merely a cash raising mechanism which is why they have chosen small quantity specialist items rather that cheaper and equally suitable generic items

Peter Russell (Bristol, 2022-07-13)

I am unhappy that a school is misusing government guidance to make uniform affordable to make it more expensive. To buy a uniform for September 2022, it is more expensive than last year. I don't think its fair that there is no transition period. A transition period would open up the preloved market, but also allow families time to buy new uniform, while still getting use out of uniform that their children still fit in. I am utterly disappointed that Kings Oak is failing to work with parents and ignoring them when asking for discussions. I had to contact them several times to get a meeting. I have more than one child, I can't share much of the uniform with them. This is making it incredibly expensive to have my children at the same school. The government says that parents should not have to pick a school base on uniform price, but I can't see how I can send any other of my children to this school, simple because I can't pass down uniform, and that I have to buy 2 full sets of uniform in one year because of the change. The school is claiming there is nothing they can do, but this is not true, they can do so much more. Parents SHOULD NOT be put in a position of putting food on the table or uniforming a child. Parents SHOULD NOT have to worry about school sending their child home if they have the old jumper style on, this opens up safeguarding issues. How can a school be this inconsiderate and non-communicative?

Jenny Stone (Bristol, 2022-07-13)

Year 11 students should NOT be expected to wear a new uniform for less than a school year!

Why not just introduce the new uniform starting with the new yr 7s? Unform is such an extra expense, especially in this present climate.

Elizabeth Withey (Bristol, 2022-07-13)

#84

The change in policy is a disgrace

Craig Andrews (Bristol, 2022-07-13)

#86

I think this is utterly ridiculous. I actually think there should be a national uniform, and if you want individual schools, then add sew on patches. In this way, uniform can be handed down easily and worn until it isnt fit anymore. Anything else is wanton waste at parents expense. Please stop this.

Heather Kirton (Bristol , 2022-07-13)

#92

School Uniforms are too expensive and should be affordable

Lesley Williams (Bristol, 2022-07-14)

#94

Over priced and a lot of families are unable to afford this.

Tracey Bryant (Bristol , 2022-07-14)

#95

In the current circumstances it is totally unacceptable to expect Yr 11 parents to incur the cost of a full new uniform for a maximum of 8 months use. Have the decent to at least find some compromise save costing your students their futures through extra stress they do not need

Su Reid (Bristik, 2022-07-14)

#98

I'm signing because having to buy new polo shirts this year going into Year 8 and I'll have but new again next September going into Year 9 because middle school and upper school have different colours. We should be allowed a years grace and transition period as the uniform which was bought last year has not worn out, can still be used and is wasteful use of material that cannot be passed on, this will end up in landfill as cannot pass on to anyone! Sustainability & the environment has not been thought about. Sew on/stick on badges need to be the future so recycling and charity donations can be possible.

Joanne Phillips (Bristol, 2022-07-14)

#99

My daughter is going into year 11 so to change uniform now is a cost that isn’t worthwhile. She will only be in it for a few months

Deborah Hutchings (Bristol , 2022-07-14)

Its not acceptable how the academy expects parents to afford this

Sharon Zahringer (Bristol , 2022-07-14)

No need for expensive uniforms that family's cannot afford especially if you on the bread line and struggling to put food on the table

James cannon Edwards (Bristol, 2022-07-14)

It is absolutely ridiculous changing it AGAIN

Emma Leworthy (Bristol, 2022-07-17)

#106

It’s disgusting prices to pay!

Emma Peacock (Bristol, 2022-07-18)

#107

Uniform brands just encourage the mindset in children that they must all wear expensive things to be the best. Ridiculous idea.

Lucy Park (Bristol , 2022-07-18)

#109

Disgusting they would even change the uniform at a time everyone is suffering financially.
Its a waste of all the perfectly good uniform that we already have.
Money grabbing! Almost £30 for a skirt, disgusting

Joanne Pearce (Bristol, 2022-07-18)

#111

It is ridiculous that year 11’s have to have a complete new uniform next year. The uniform should be phased in gradually and cheaper, supermarket options should be made available for all items.

Clair Pitt (Bristol, 2022-07-19)

#113

Im not willing to spend 34 on 2 pairs of trousers or 10 per shirt and what ever on a jumper especially when our teen age sonw is about to hit puberty and shoot up in height. So you are forcing me to choose between him being classed as a poor person or not spending 150 plus on new uniform that may only fit for a few mths, this is going to make kids from families where money is tight stick out and get bullied.

Debbie Boucher (Bristol , 2022-07-19)

#114

At the end of the day why does it matter if there is a school crest on or not! As long as children are learning surely thats whats important

Lucy Boyle (Bristol , 2022-07-19)

#122

I don’t agree with the school uniform policy to make parents buy the new school uniform for pupils that are already in the school. It should be introduced for new pupils only IE Reception and year 7, this would then be phased in or if pupils require new uniforms due to wear and tear or sizing. Also only having one supplier is wrong, this has created a monopoly system allowing the supplier to inflate prices, procurement rules are there to encourage best buying and to allow the parents to get value for money not to line the pockets of profiteering organisations.

Nicholas Pitt (Bristol, 2022-07-20)

#123

My child’s uniform still fits perfectly and as she won’t be at school for even a full year next year (going into year 11) there is absolutely no point in purchasing this new uniform. It is a waste of money.

chiara fantuzzi (bristol, 2022-07-20)

#124

The cost of living crisis is affecting so many families that I do not see the need for such expensive uniform items.

Rachael Kent (Bristol, 2022-07-21)

#130

The expensive uniforms, awful style and designs

Nicola Bradley (Bristol , 2022-07-23)

#131

The constant changes of colour and design for different age groups is unacceptable and far too costly to the average family budget. Pick a uniform colour and stick with it please! No changes for the next 20 years at least. Many thanks.

Andrew McInnes (Bristol , 2022-07-24)

This is a totally disgraceful state of affairs. The school had made this decision and now hides behind the statement that they're following government guidelines this is a real insult. I agree with other parents that a staggered role out would have been better but let's face it the school should be considering issues within the wider community relating to the cost of living crisis before even considering the change. Apparently the school are taking children's comfort in to consideration, funny but I've never heard my son complain about how uncomfortable the uniform is. As for patches etc it's certainly an idea but we all went to school once so we know the pressure that kids are under to fit in, kids whose uniform differs from the norm could become self conscious and become subject to the ridicule of others. My suggestion is that parents should take collective action and refuse to purchase the uniform let's face it if we all showed solidarity they aren't going to exclude everyone. Bottom line KOA should be ashamed.

I'm signing because it is unreasonable for KOA to expect parents to spend so much on a uniform, and to insist that Yr 11 have to have it for such a short period.

Lindsay Harper (Bristol , 2022-09-03)

#135

My son is in year 10 and don’t understand why children already at kings oak with uniform (only bought in feb) should need to change to the new. I think it should be more fazed out

Gemma Dixon (Warmley Bristol, 2022-09-03)

#138

I support this petition, we need to make uniform more affordable. My personal issue is the change to charcoal. My son is wearing mens sizes and trying to get charcoal shorts in mens sizes is pretty much impossible. Black is so much better, grey has so many variants in my opinion it will look scruffy, so much more difficult to source too.
