Petition to allow the use of Stand up Paddleboards on Ennerdale & Thirlmere

Comments

#202

I want to be able to paddle and enjoy the lakes

Diane Hawe (Lytham St. Annes, 2021-08-19)

#207

We should have access to the inland waters of the UK, and there is no good reason for this sudden ban.

Caroline Stevens (Bristol, 2021-08-19)

#209

This is a ridiculous and discriminatory ban! SUPs are banned - and yet canoes and kayaks are not? No SUP related accidents on either of these lakes have occurred.

Carmen Tse (Paignton, 2021-08-19)

#210

It is far easier to self rescue form a SUP than other paddle crafts. The SUP is also a fantastic rescue platform for rescuing anyone who gets into difficulties from swimming or capsize.
Paddlers of all craft, and swimmers, should be able to make their own risk assessments.
SUP is certainly no more hazardous than using other paddle craft
Please allow the use of SUPs for people’s enjoyment as well as mental and physical health.

Louise Royle (Abingdon , 2021-08-19)

#211

I love to travel to an sup in the lakes..

Jason Catterall (Lower Darwen, Darwen, Lanvashite, 2021-08-19)

#213

Why not allow it …

David Cresswell (Brentwood, 2021-08-19)

#221

Mandate life jackets, job dobr

Michael Sowiak (Durham, 2021-08-19)

#222

We use a paddle board

Lynn Fenwick (Newcastle, 2021-08-19)

#223

I have previously paddle boarded on Thirlmere and enjoyed the beauty and serenity of it.

Helen Hogg (Barton-upon-Humber, 2021-08-19)

#224

This ban makes no sense in terms of the available evidence, and must therefore be based on some level of discrimination. This may even be unlawful.

Mick Wall (Lampeter, 2021-08-19)

#226

I’m signing because paddleboarding is a low risk, low pollution, pastime and far less intrusive on the environment than many other water based sports

Simon Dunn (Preston, 2021-08-19)

#235

I’m signing because more and more restrictions are being imposed on all the lakes, if this carries on soon we won’t be able to enjoy the water at all!

Robert Haynes (Lytham, 2021-08-20)

#238

This is a lovely lake and why should other users be free to use and not paddle boarders?

Rachel Usher (Morpeth, 2021-08-20)

#242

I'm fed up with restrictions on access. This does not happen in Scotland, are we a different breed south of the border? People must take their own responsibility.

Bob Andrews (Carmarthen , 2021-08-20)

#243

This will be the start of things to come. There are a lot of boarders atm but it will die down and will be much more manageable. No one should take the choice of navigating this beautiful area from us.

Amy Liston (Telford, 2021-08-20)

#245

This recreational sport is easy and available to all, no matter your age or health limitations. It has massive health benefits both physically and mentally. Please keep as many areas open to all.

Debra Maddison (Durham, 2021-08-20)

#248

Signing because SUP is inextricably linked to positive mental health, and we won't be told we can't exercise our bodies, health or rights!!!

Petrocelli Madiba (Troon, 2021-08-20)

#252

The logic is flawed and will result in an excessively high concentration of SUPs in other waterways.

Hilary Wilson (Newport , 2021-08-20)

#253

I am an experienced paddler and feel this is an unfair change of rules.

Heather Langton (Kendal, 2021-08-20)

#260

The lakes are a natural resource that need to have fair access for non motorised leisure

Emma parry (chester, 2021-08-20)

#261

It’s personal choice and I see no other difference in any of the codes... kayaks and canoes can capsize and can lead to problems in the water... SUPS if used correctly as with other water crafts are no different and have plenty of safety features.

Phillip Pate (Greater Manchester , 2021-08-20)

#265

I can’t see a just reason to not let us paddle on such a beautiful bit of water

Darren Johnson (Blackpool, 2021-08-20)

#271

I am a SUP boarder, a local west Cumbrian resident, and a part-owner of a paddleboarding hire business (Marra Bikes & Boards). There is no logical or fair rationale for this ban and people using our lakes in part for benefitting their physical and mental health, should not be dissuaded.

Amy Fisher (Seascale, 2021-08-20)

#282

Sup is great to get people outdoors. Make it key that people have the right gear not ban them.

Kim Mathews (Wirral, 2021-08-21)

#285

This doesn’t make sense, if the cold water is the problem then open water swimming should also be banned.
There is a risk around water whatever craft you choose, why select paddleboards over anything else. I think that sups should be reinstated on both of these waters.

Shân Jefferson (Clitheroe , 2021-08-21)

#303

I am a Paddleboarder and the Lakes are a beautiful place to do this.
Everyone who does watersports does so at their own risk

Tracy Mitchell (Blackpool , 2021-08-23)

#304

The benefits of Paddleboarding clearly outweigh any risks which can be managed

John Collins (Glasgow, 2021-08-23)

#305

As an enthusiastic, experienced stand up paddler, with always a mind for safety considerations, it is regrettable that this ban has been put in place. I am based in the North West and am a frequent visitor to the Lake District to paddle the lakes.

Andrew Smith (Wigan, 2021-08-23)

#306

It’s a privilege to be able to paddle on such lovely water

Fred Doodey (Crowle, 2021-08-23)

#309

Because I believe it’s wrong that organisation can stop people exercising in the outdoors . This wouldn’t happen in Europe . Just another show of repression in the uk .

James clayton (Blackpool , 2021-08-23)

#316

Health and Safety is a lazy excuse for banning SUP use. If people can’t SUP on the lakes, they will go to potentially more unsuitable locations, eg rivers where access may be risky. Please reconsider.

Juliette Warren (St Albans, 2021-08-23)

#317

SUP is a fab activity that has become accessible to so many due to ISUP boards becoming affordable. It benefits you both physically and mentally so areas banning them with no evidence of higher risks is unfair.

Louise Switters (Stevenage, 2021-08-23)

#320

I’m signing this because I agree

David Hancox (London, 2021-08-23)

#322

It's important that we get to use our outdoor space to thr maximum potential, living through Covid has shown us that.

Ben Sykes (Saddleworth , 2021-08-23)

#330

I believe the lakes should be enjoyed and that people should be allowed to paddleboard on them

Adina Brown (Ulverston, 2021-08-24)

#331

My wife paddleboards and who made them king?

marc Goujon (rosley , 2021-08-24)

#334

With covid we need people to get active, get outside and have space. We need more open places, not less.

Alisha Peart (Newcastle upon Tyne, 2021-08-25)

#336

I am unclear as to why paddling would be any different to kayaking (especially inflatable) if wearing the correct gear.

Amy Hunter (Penrith, 2021-08-25)

#338

I love Ennerdale and Love to SUP can't understand why I can kayak but can't sup

Rachel Jenkins (Ellesmere Port , 2021-08-26)

#341

People are allowed kayaks and canoes so why not SUP? There's no difference in them apart from standing up

Susan raw (Kendal, 2021-08-26)

#345

Sup is a watersport lived by many and deserve equal access rights to other water users

Donna Roe (Redcar, 2021-08-27)

#346

I am signing because I think this policy is inconsistent - allowing canoes and kayaks but not paddle boarders seems a strange decision. Making it clear that swimming is not allowed should be sufficient to deter inexperienced SUP’ers - experienced SUP users would not be in the water any more than those on canoes or kayaks.

Jo Laker (Keswick, 2021-08-28)

#347

I'm a keen paddleboard and consider the decision discriminatory when canoes and kayaks (inc inflatables) are still allowed in these waters.

Michelle Barron (Bolton low houses , 2021-08-29)

#354

I love paddle boarding and we need more peaceful safe places to do it

Gale Booth (Cambridge , 2021-09-01)

#358

I SUP and cannot see why paddleboarding is being singled out as a high risk

Natalie Allison (Redcar, 2021-09-05)

#360

I SUP in this area and would like to show my support for everyone that also enjoys these waters

Karen Turner (Newcastle , 2021-09-06)

#365

I live bear Ennerdale and my Fiancé has MS and its easier for her

Ian Henderson (Frizington , 2021-10-08)

#368

I have never had the chance to sup on thirlmere, but would really like the opportunity

Elaine Nuttall (Clitheroe, 2021-10-15)

#372

It’s ridiculous paddle boards are banned yet canoes aren’t !!

Nigel Atkinson (Swinhope, 2021-11-03)

#374

I’m a passionate paddle boarder and love exploring different lakes in the Lake District.

Max Talich (Wigton, 2021-11-08)

#379

It’s utterly ridiculous to single out paddle boards, another piece of the nanny state thinking for us yet allowing kayaks and canoes.

Linden Greenwood (Ulverston, 2021-11-16)

#380

The risk is no higher than those people using Canoes and Kayaks especially inflatable ones.

Paul Burman (Newcastle Upon Tyne, 2021-11-16)

#382

I'm signing this petition because if you are allowing inflatable canoes etc then the risk must be the same a canoe is as easily tipped over as an inflatable paddle board

Lis Mae (Worcester, 2021-11-22)

#383

I'm signing this petition because we seem to be having our freedom's eroded on a daily basis.

Patrick Callaway (Brough, 2021-11-23)

#385

It is clearly an injustice, pain and simple.

Andrea Rogers (Manchester, 2021-11-24)

#386

I enjoy paddling the lakes and don't see why I should be prohibited from doing so on these particular waters.

Paul Melarange (Holme, 2021-12-27)

#388

I’m signing because, paddle boarding is no more dangerous than any other from of water sports. Like all water sports, appropriate clothing and preparation/safety measures are required.

Ralph Sibley (Stockport, 2022-01-09)

#389

A regular paddle boarder who will be profoundly affected by these restrictions

Amanda Woodall (Glossop, 2022-01-09)

#390

We have recently received a SUP ban on Torside Reservoir (Nr Glossop) which is also owned by United Utilities. We are members of the the Glossop Sailing Club, but other members, such as windsurfing and boating are unaffected.

Simon Capp (Glossop, 2022-01-09)

#391

SUP is a safe sport and banning it is irrational.

Viki Packman (Stockport, 2022-01-10)

#392

The impact of this decision are far reaching, SUP is one of the most diverse watersports and plays a huge part in participants mental health.

Lorraine Smitham (Glossop, 2022-01-12)

#397

There is minimal difference between someone using a paddle board and other leisure equipment such as inflatable canoes and boats. Use of waters for leisure purposes is a vital right for people.

Bryan Youlden (Accrington , 2022-01-26)

#400

This is part of a blanket decision by UU that is unfairly biased against paddleboarders. I would like to see more of these petitions in other areas of the country or perhaps a nationwide one, since it's a nationwide issue. Regardless this is a petitions that all paddleboarders should support.
