Because I’m disgusted at the treatment of happy days staff. This was a unilateral decision on an issue that affects parents and children, and yet made entirely without consultation with parents, or the PTA. Not was there any attempt at consultation with happy days. To make all those redundancies in the current climate is morally dubious and not at all in keeping with Chennestone’s community . I do not like the message this sends to my son who is so sad that staff he is fond of have been axed. Affecting all those livelihoods to save a few pounds is clumsy and in my opinion, ill thought out. I urge the school to reconsider and listen to the concerns of parents. On another matter, I have emailed the school three times and rang to express the concerns I have laid out here and not heard back. I do not feel consulted or listened to and am deeply unhappy about it.

All 3 of mychildren have used happy days including my son who is nearly 16 now and I have always had great trust in their care

I’m signing because I do not understand the reasoning behind such an abrupt decision and as with many things that have happened at the school recently, parents have not been consulted. All I’ve ever heard is positive things about Happy Days and after 13 years of hard work, they shouldn’t be going anywhere!

Happy Days was invaluable to me when my children were there. They enjoyed it too. The staff were always fantastic.

My daughter Suraiya went to Happy Days for 7 yrs and they were absolutely awesome. They really cared for her well and they were an amazing addition to my childcare when my husband suddenly passed away. I do believe there should be a process if they are to go and they should be treated with respect and dignity as they are a huge part of Chennestone and Beauclerc.

It seems unfair and unjust to axe a provision without explanation which is used and loved so much

Parents work and they want there children to be happy, it works so why take it away. The children are happy, takes the stress of working parents.

Whilst Happy Days is a business, the women running it clearly do so out of a genuine high regard for the children in their care. They are fun, innovative, caring and great at building relationships. These relationships are key to our children. In the current climate children have lost so much and loss and grief needs to be well supported so as not to impact our children significantly long term. Shutting down Happy Days does the opposite of putting our children’s needs first and disregards the importance of connection with key individuals for long term development and mental health. I am concerned at the message it sends to my children as to how we as a community treat people who show commitment, hard work and compassion.

My son attends this and so have all of my children for the last 12 years, I think it’s disgusting that in the times we are in the new head thinks she can just waltz in and make all these people loose there jobs and make our children loose the people we trust the most to look after them

There a lovely friendly team that have been a great help to most and have been there for years now so deserve to stay open at chennestone 😊

Because my little brothers have been coming to this after school club for years and built such a lovely bond I used to go everyday such lovely ladies and it’s not right to take them away from the kids because I know I speak for many kids mums this is a lovely place to send kids to play have a snack while waiting to get picked up so please don’t get rid of the lady’s at happy days

Emily Collins (Sunbury, 2021-05-12)

I don’t actually send by kids to after school club but I hear nothing but great things about Happy Days and my boys have often asked me if they can go because all their friends have a really great time. I also feel sad that this situation has arisen and been dealt with in the way that it has.

We as parents depend on this service and also my kids love it, this is out of order this new head teacher thinks it is acceptable to do this, I am outraged

My children love Happy Days and we, as working parents, have relied on their excellent service for the last 5 years.

I would ask that the school to please reconsider this decision.

My daughter attended Happy Days for many years and they are brilliant. She had so much fun there and the staff are amazing. So very sad to see it possibly end.

I want to understand what the school is putting in place abs assurances around service provided and ensuring that it is fun for my kids and not an extension of the school day

I believe this is a valuable service to the children and families of the Chennestone school community. The students know Lee-Ann and Fran and the team. They enrich the children's lives by making their time at Happy Days fun, building strong friendships and have excellent relationships with the families.

From people I have spoken to the parents are more than happy with Happy Days as it stands and there doesn't seem any reason to make people that I know un employed after all they have been through with the covid situation we've come through.

Rachel Collis (Sunbury, 2021-05-13)

Such an amazing reason why parents would choose this school! It does so well!

Megan Foster (London, 2021-05-14)

#63

To have such a valued facility taken away from the parents around Chennestone without any consultation with them, or the ladies who run Happy Days. It is unfair on the staff at Happy Days who have worked so hard to build trust with parents and a rapport with the children who have had such 'Happy Times' there. There needs to be some openess shown by the school, it's head and the governors.

David Goodwin (London, 2021-05-14)

I am signing because I believe after school provision is a life line for working parents and a necessity to many others!
Head teachers should not be allowed to work in a dictorial fashion!

Very sad and confused by the decision to no longer use Happy Days at Chennestone. My children love it, and always come home Happy and normally with some great art project. Surely given the massive upheaval that our children have had to go through recently, the one steady, safe and most of all, fun, experience should not be taken away too.

Derek Leslie (Sunbury, 2021-05-14)

I needed this after school club! Without it I would have been unable to hold down my job!

Hayley Thompson (Sunbury, 2021-05-14)

The service the Happy Days team provides if pivotal to the parents at the school and to plan to remove it without any discussion with parents is awful.

Rachel W (London, 2021-05-14)

I’m signing because I believe withdrawing a childcare facility without consultation with parents and staff and anyone who will be affected is morally wrong . I feel the disruption for many families , in particular for the children who are settled and feel safe within the facility would be detrimental and add further un settlement after such an unsettled year due to the pandemic .

Shenaz Drury (Addlestone , 2021-05-14)

To be able to deliver safe, encouraging & fun childcare within your own community that you were born in to is not only an honour it’s a sense of belonging and an opportunity to offer employment to local people that also have the same passion to see that children given the full potential to play in an environment where they can develop new skills outside of the classroom. Sunbury is a fantastic community, a supporting community. A community that genuinely cares about small businesses that continually give back and that’s what Fran & Lee-Ann do for your children and would like to continue to do with the backing of family, friends and parents past and present of Happy Days.

Sonia Andrews (Sunbury , 2021-05-14)

Parents at Chennestone rely on after school care happy days provide a safe and fun environment for children from 4-11 years old. Children receive a healthy snack and fruit is readily available throughout the session
Some parents will find it financially impossible to cover child care if happy days closes
It’s a very good price for an amazing service

Sherril Latham (Surrey, 2021-05-17)

This is a much needed facility in the local area

Emma Longmore (North warnborough , 2021-05-17)

Disappointed and angered that a business that has been built up by the ladies over many years has just been brushed aside without any consultation with the owners or the parents and more importantly how have the Governors come to this conclusion 😔
You should ask yourselves how and why this has been allowed to happen ? Where is the transparency with regard to the decision making process?
In these times how can the closure of such an important local community amenity be justified or considered a good idea !!
