It's an object of beauty and makes me happy every time I walk past it

Ali Bullough (Brighton, 2021-04-29)

#3

I'm signing because the hut brightens the street.

John Fidler (High Peak , 2021-04-29)

#4

It was made with love and care and I enjoy seeing it whenever I go past.

Maria Gardiner (Hove, 2021-04-29)

#6

It is a beautifully crafted beach hut, in keeping with everything that is Brighton. It is a non-permanent structure -does Brighton Council also require the removal of bike stores, wheelie bin stores and such useful structures that are common in the front yards of other towns and cities? What exactly is the problem? At very least, please allow the owners time to find an acceptable home for it, if it really is unacceptable where it is.

Caroline Richards (Liskeard, 2021-04-29)

#9

This beach hut is colourful and cheerful and, being mobile, can hardly be called an outbuilding! He really ought to be allowed to stay.

Paul Lewis (Brighton, 2021-04-29)

#11

Looks fantastic to me
Can a better solution be found ?

Stephen Allcorn (Eadtbourne , 2021-04-29)

#12

I'm signing because I think this is a great hut & a wonderful seaside landmark. It adds to the street rather than detracting & it isn't doing anyone any harm. It's completely in keeping with the vibe of Brighton.

Jane Power (Brighton, 2021-04-29)

#15

It’s a joyful beach hut that fits in sympathetically with what Brighton is all about and forcing its removal and probable destruction is both petty and unnecessary. The word “parochial” has its current meaning because of just such behaviour from local councils. Just allow more time to sell its and stop giving yourselves a bad name. I am just visualising a committee similar to Hot Fuzz, talking about “the greater good”.

Lucie Goater (Geneva, 2021-04-30)

#18

It’s a beautiful beach hut and was made with so much love and care and brings joy to the area. I don’t want to see it destroyed.

Catherine Lucktaylor (St Just, 2021-04-30)

#19

Showing my support

Sonia Bullough (Leicester, 2021-04-30)

#20

This is utterly ridiculous and I love a good beach hut

Hayley Dines (Ipswich , 2021-04-30)

#24

This is a beautiful hut. It should be classed as an asset. It is well looked after and not an eyesore. What harm is caused by it being there

Jan Smalley (Fareham, 2021-05-01)

#26

How pathetic can Brighton Council get?apart from the fact we all love it, it's a trailer. If it has to go let's hope Paul gets the ugliest caravan he can find, to park on his drive and decorates it in the loudest paint he can find.

Simon Coode (Brighton, 2021-05-01)

#28

It looks as though it's on private property and not doing any harm. If neighbours are complaining they need to learn some compassion. It is beautiful and destroying it would be a crime. I'd have thought the council has more pressing issues to occupy itself with.

Phillipa Rutter (Brighton, 2021-05-01)

#39

It's fabulous.

Steven Clark (Brighton, 2021-05-03)

#41

I appreciate this representation, it is vitally important for the sense of community & gives my son reassurance that his community both accept & respect him.

Jo Hatton (Brighton, 2021-05-03)

#42

I love Gabriel the Trans Hut and think it should stay

Vikki Ryan (Warminster, 2021-05-03)

#45

The hut adds to the local environment, it brings cheer and painted in the Trans flag colours reminds us of the great LGBT+, inclusive and diverse city we live in.

Chris Sanders (Hove, 2021-05-03)

#47

I walk past this hut often and it is great to see. Perfect for Brighton. Please let it stay!

Jodie Mitchell (Brighton , 2021-05-03)

#48

Whilst I have no idea of the importance of the colours I really enjoy seeing it as I drive down to the lights

Linda Moore (Southwick, 2021-05-03)

#49

Our local council are not fit for purpose

These clowns have installed road policies without our consent and now they are clamping down on a lovely structure like this?

Get your priorities right

Justin King (Saltdean, 2021-05-03)

#52

I’m disgusted by Brighton Council’s attitude to this lovingly and beautifully constructed beach hut. I’ve seen much worse things in gardens around the city, scrap cars and old furniture etc. They’ve been there years and are ignored by the council.
This beach hut is doing no harm, it’s on the owners forecourt so if you insist on him moving it at least give the owner time to rehome it.

Jeannette Locorriere (Brighton, 2021-05-03)

#54

There is no way, a beach hut can cause harm to anyone. I wouldn't expect this sort of negativity towards trans people from Brighton. I'm appalled to hear this has even an occurred.
The trans coloured beach hut is wonderful and really helps the lgbtqi+ community feel noticed.
#DontDestroyTheBeachHut

Amethyst Hansen (Chichester, 2021-05-03)

#56

Gabriel is gorgeous and harming no one.

Jan Gold (Shoreham-by-Sea, 2021-05-03)

#57

We are a community of all people, the council is wrong to assume this is not allowed.

Katy Kohut (Kemptown , 2021-05-03)

#58

Gabriel is all that Brighton is,qwerky, colourful, cosmopolitan & should stay

Wendy Roberts (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#59

This is portable, it has wheels and BEAUTIFUL, if residents are not complaining why does it need to move?

Marie Maynard (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#66

Gabriel is a positive addition to the look and vibe of Kemptown and should be treasured not destroyed

Chris Meyrick (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#69

The shed is fab

Holly Rooney (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#70

Lower Rock Gardens has many unsightly blemishes, from skips to scaffolding, but this little hut is not one of them. If you want to prevent harm being caused in Kemptown, provide permanent housing for the homeless, rent controls, more recycling and refuse services and leave the shed alone.

Judith Harris (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#80

The council should have far more pressing concerns to deal with... we all love the Brighton Beach Hut

Stuart Paul Fishlock (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#82

I thought Brighton was a city of forward thinking people , obviously the council are not .
I think the hut is a lovely work of art.

Jacqueline O'Shea (Lancing, 2021-05-04)

#83

Its doing no harm , and i thought Brighton was a place of acceptence x

Melissa Jones (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#86

I live here, I’m trans, this is some next BS.

Altan Fisk (Brighton , 2021-05-04)

#87

This beach hut, although it may seem insignificant to the council, is part of trans visibility and trans rights to be out in the open living their truth. It’s always a joy to see when visiting Brighton which is known for being a diverse and inclusive city.

Best,

Jonathan Rojas (London, 2021-05-04)

#90

it’s legally a trailer so council
has no right to insist on its removal. plus it looks good far better than other housing that have piles of rubbish in front space

Michael Nelson Viana (brighton, 2021-05-04)

#91

It’s always pleasure to see Gabriel when I drive past, he brightens the street and the day of many people. The hut is beautiful and should be appreciated and cherished, not destroyed - that would be barbaric, not something I’d expect from a council of an open minded city that Brighton surely is.

Lucia Babjakova (Shoreham-by-Sea, 2021-05-04)

#92

Brighton is known for its art and weirdness so why take it away if it’s not even ugly? Can the council please put pedestrian lights on the junction next to the Black Dove so I don’t have to risk my life every time I cross the road before taking down a lovely pastel beach hut. I submit my dissertation on the 10th so I need some happiness for that day and if he’s still there I might even put him in my acknowledgements

Jess Fairhurst (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#96

It's my creation..and I love it. And it has brought a lot of happiness to passers by.

Paul Davis (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#97

this beautiful must saved for posterity and as a symbol of the injustices LGBTI people are suffering

Mjka Scott (Brighton, 2021-05-04)

#98

I feel that during a dark and isolating time for many. That the beach hut brought some vibrancy to lower rock gardens I see no reason to remove it . It has become an unique part of the road that I saw every day on my way to work or during extreme lock down measures on my daily walk or shop visit . Requesting for the hut to be removed is unnecessary I see no obstructions to any roads or pedestrianised paths . So I see no problem with it being there . It is this that leads me to believe the Council should reconsider there decision to force the resident to remove the beach hut.

Zachary White (Brighton , 2021-05-05)

#100

I want the beach hut trailer painted with trans pride colours to remain on Lower Rock Gardens until the owner can find another home for it.
Brighton Council has far more important problems to deal with than something lile this! Tackle the rubbish and graffiti everywhere first before anything like this, which is beautifully painted and brings a smile.

Robert Clark (Brighton, 2021-05-05)

#101

It brightens up the community and does no harm.

Brendan Russell (Brighton, 2021-05-05)

#104

Gabriel is the only thing of beauty or interest in the street.

Simon Russell (Hove, 2021-05-05)

#106

I am in agreement for hut to remain

Toni Waters (London, 2021-05-05)

#107

I thought what a great idea and how lovely it looked

Sally Goddard (BRIGHTON, 2021-05-05)

#109

It is a celebration of diversity and should remain.

Charlie Watts (Addlestone, 2021-05-05)

#111

I support the petition to ask Brighton council to not force the removal of Gabriel the beach hut

Suzy Twigg (Brighton, 2021-05-06)

#113

I'm signing because I am a resident on Lower Rock Gardens and live next door to the beach hut. I think to say this is not in keeping with the area is a farce and a bureaucratic decision. I feel there are real issues being avoided in the Kemptown area and the hut is seen as an easy target and quick win for the local authority rather than focusing on what they should be, maintaining the quality of the accommodation in the area. I worked from home whilst it was being built and enjoyed seeing the project develop everyday, I also watch people in the area approach it daily to see what it's all about as they find it interesting and fun. It has become a great addition to the area.

Jason Stirling (Brighton, 2021-05-06)

#114

It is parked off the road and does not interfere with any traffic or pedestrians walking past. It is within the boundary of the property and not causing any harm. It actually brings a smile to people’s faces seeing what appears to be an old fashioned beach hut there.
What is the issue with the Council wanting it to be moved? What rules or regulations are being broken here?

Michael Brimacombe (Brighton , 2021-05-06)

#115

I have enjoyed watching this little cabin being constructed only daily walks and it make me smile when I’m walking past. It adds to the colour of the area

Claire Hicklin (Brighton , 2021-05-07)

#117

I think that the structure lends a lot of character to the area and is 100% in keeping with Brighton aesthetics

Chris Gates (Brighton , 2021-05-08)

#119

I love Gabriel

Julian Kerridge (Brighton, 2021-05-08)

#122

I love this. I live in the same street and couldn’t imagine that the hut is gone. I saw Paul build from scratch and was so inspired and hard work. Please let to keep and let’s shiny this in our Lower rock gardens street.

Agnieszka Dolata (Brighton, 2021-05-08)

#125

Upon walking down lower rock gardens Gabriel the beach hut caught my eye, it was so pretty and so 'Brighton'. It brightened my day and lifted my spirits especially after the last year we have experienced

Lisa Shore (Cardiff, 2021-05-09)

#128

I walk past Gabriel almost every other day and no matter what mood I'm in he makes me smile. He has become a key placemaker in my internal map of Brighton. Seeing him reminds me of the city I live in and the beautiful people living their truths.

Andy Naccarato (Brighton, 2021-05-09)

#132

It’s my first weekend in Brighton and I’ve just walked past the beach hut and I think it looks lovely and there would be no reason to save it otherwise

Tom McRae (Saffron Walden, 2021-05-11)

#133

This is a work of art, not an eyesore.
Brighton is a place of diversity and variety
Surely there must be a fair and equitable solution?

Joanna Rowland-Stuart (Brighton, 2021-05-11)

#134

Because Gabriel is a lovely sight and it isn't bothering anyone

Talabi Pitanga (Brighton, 2021-05-13)

#137

This is an excellent work and a true reflection of the diversity of the neighborhood. Brighton should be LAUDING it.

Kinny Gardner (Brighton, 2021-05-14)

#138

We must celebrate this work, a local artist with a strong sense of community.

Dr. Kenneth Gardner (Brighton, 2021-05-14)

#140

I love this little trailer, it really brightens up the street!

Ben Wright (Brighton , 2021-05-15)

#142

Far from detracting from the area it adds character to the area. Sometimes different is better and in my opinion it should be given a place.

Alan Dawson (Stevenage , 2021-05-16)

#143

It’s gorgeous. It’s a welcome attractive and well maintained piece of the area. More than can be said about most of the rock gardens area which is mostly run down and grubby

Ben Parrish (Brighton, 2021-05-16)

#144

How absurd! It’s on wheels and is perfectly legal to have on the drive? And it’s beautiful?!?!?

Charlotte Moore (Oxford, 2021-05-18)

#146

This is a beautiful structure which perfectly represents our city and it's queer identity. It's something I point out to people visiting and brings joy to everyone who sees it.

Rhianna Wheeler (Brighton, 2021-05-21)

#147

This beach hut is on my street and it's one of the things that we loved when we were thinking about buying our flat on this street! It's the most aesthetically pleasing thing on the street. It should stay and the council should sort out the mess at the other buildings.

Jessie Stanbrook (Brighton, 2021-05-22)

#155

Because it's beautiful and creative and represents Brighton

Nick Porter (Bournemouth, 2021-05-31)

#156

I’m signing this petition because Gabriel is very sweet and brought a smile when walking down the street in a colourful neighbourhood

Elodie Mouton (Brighton , 2021-05-31)

#159

There are so many eye sores in filthy Brighton and this isn’t one of them

Keith Newland (Brighton, 2021-06-05)

#161

We love this addition to the street

Andrew Richardson (Brighton, 2021-06-05)

#165

I live here and I find it fitting the character of the area

Stuart Gordon (Brighton, 2021-06-13)

#166

Gabriel is fantastic - and perfectly reflects the character of Brighton in general, and Kemp Town in particular.

Roger Mahony (Dorking, 2021-06-14)

#168

I Gabriel should stay

Zoe Lynch (London, 2021-06-16)

#169

I’ve enjoyed looking at Gabriel when I walk towards the sea for the last year, he brightens the road up magnificently!

Charlie F (Brighton, 2021-06-17)

#170

The shed looks really pretty along the street and is not causing any harm.

Amber Prosse (Gravesend, 2021-06-17)

#172

It's a nice thing.

Alex Pilsworth (Brighton, 2021-06-19)

#173

I like the Gabriel where it is

Carla Holden (Brighton, 2021-06-19)

#177

Gabriel makes me happy and livens up a street that can often be filled with people who act in a way that makes it undesirable! I am a resident of the adjoining road and Gabriel lights up my day whenever I leave the house and look down the street! I would be ashamed if I was the member of the council who authorised the destruction of Gabriel. Gabriel is the epitome of the unique nature of Brighton and what makes this place so wonderful. Please do not remove a piece of Brighton! Let Gabriel live in his rightful place and give Paul a chance!

Poppy Robinson (Brighton, 2021-06-20)

#178

Gabriel makes me smile ^^

Sam Chapman (Brighton, 2021-06-20)

#181

The hut looks great and enhances the look of the street.

Mark Gabriel Dodds (Farnham, 2021-06-25)

#184

I feel the temporary nature of the reques, and positive appearance of the beach hut should be recognised, and more time allowed to hearing public view as well as for finding a suitable final site.

Francisco Shankland (Haywards Heath, 2021-06-26)

#185

b town is beautiful

Daniel Clark (bournemouth , 2021-07-01)

#187

I just love it when I look out my window from across the street it looks amazing

Matthew Lawson (Brighton , 2021-07-04)

#188

I think it looks good .blends in with Brighton.and it is doing no harm to any one . I think the owner should no be made to remove it .this is no different from a caravan being parked their.

David Fox (Manchester, 2021-07-04)

#189

Because, since moving to Brighton in November 2020 I have though the hut enhances the look of the street and adds a lovely seaside character to the view

Dave Morris (Brighton, 2021-07-06)

#191

Gabriel is an improvement on the street

Annabel Hall (London, 2021-07-07)

#192

Unbelievable pettiness

Richard Howe (Shoreham Beach, 2021-07-07)

#193

I’m signing because every time I’ve walked down Rock Gardens recently and seen the beach hut it’s put a smile on my face. Far from causing significant harm to the character of the street I think it brightens it up considerably - easily the nicest thing to look at amongst the surrounding scaffolding. I’d love it to stay as long as possible.

Vicki Lesley (Brighton , 2021-07-08)

#194

I think this little hut truly does reflect perfectly the eclectic and open culture of Brighton and especially kemp town

Vicky Bell (London , 2021-07-08)

#195

It’s beautiful, it brightens up the street and it should be allowed to stay!

Lucy Edwards (Brighton, 2021-07-09)

#197

I think Gabriel ENHANCES Lower Rock Gardens (I am a property owner at the bottom of LRG) . The council must give the owner enough time to find a new location, if it is not allowed to stay on LRG.

Jonathan Bailey (Brighton , 2021-07-09)

#199

Gabriel can’t be destroyed !

Betty Dwyer (Brighton , 2021-07-10)

#200

The hut enhances the street and makes me smile

Richard Rudd (Brighton , 2021-07-10)
