Petition to Increase the safety of Haven Banks Play Park

#4

This play area is very dangerous and needs a fence to prevent serious accidents

Patricia Climie (EXETER, 2021-01-05)

#6

I use the park regularly and agree it is very busy with walkers and cyclists passing by. An accident could easily happy and a bit of fenching is worth the cost to prevent a serious injury to a child.

Matilda Butcher (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#7

Parents can be distracted. Losing a toddler would be unspeakably awful

Jeremy Cushing (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#8

I'm very concerned about safety at this play park. It has a high degree of danger from the nearby water.

Deborah Salisbury (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#11

As a grandmother of a 19 month old I know how quickly toddlers move.

Anne Priest (Exeter , 2021-05-04)

#12

The safety of young children near a fast moving river is paramount.

This is especially warranted opposite a play park where small children play.

Karina Bailey (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#14

The safety of our children is paramount!

Sara Moreing (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

I have 4 year old twins boys and since they were able to walk we’ve had to stop coming to this park because they will run out of the gates and down the bank as fast as lightening. All it takes is fir me to give attention to one child and the other will be off and away. It needs proper protection- or the position of the gates need to be changed.

Kirsten Hurley (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#25

I feel unable to take my 2 year old twins to this park due to the lack of safety/fence protecting them from falling into the river.

Rukaya Bradford (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#28

Concerns for children’s safety, either how close it is to the quay.

Melissa Stallard (Dawlish, 2021-05-04)

#29

I go to this park a lot and when pushing a pram out the gate aswell as having a toddler running out the gate it’s hard to hold toddler push pram and open gate all at the same time, to have the area a bit more safe for them to run out on path while I get out the gate and know it be safe around that area will be great!

Sammie Bradford (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#30

A child’s safety whilst playing is of paramount importance!
This is surely an accident waiting to happen & can be prevented with the appropriate safety measures.

VICTORIA TURNER (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#32

I feel the current safety fence is not sufficient

Hebe Poole (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#34

My child escaped from this once & it was only by pure luck someone managed to catch him. It really is insufficient & needs more protection.

Beth Hall (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#40

I'm signing for the safety of all you guys children using a park so close to the water. All things should be in place to keep them safe.

Michelle Tomlinson (Cullompton, 2021-05-04)

#43

Keeping kids safe is paramount, parents and care givers cannot always keep eyes on every child in their care every second. It only takes a second for a kid to drown.

Fran Rose (EXETER, 2021-05-04)

#51

As a mother of two young children I wouldn’t attend this park without my husband as I feel it’s unsafe being so close to the river, the extra safety of a longer fencing would mean we could enjoy this park without fear of the river being an issue! Luckily my children don’t run off but a child with extra needs could easily run and anything could happen

Sadie Holden (Exeter , 2021-05-04)

#52

I use this park regularly with my children and back the idea to prevent a child failing into river.

Kevin Williams (Exeter , 2021-05-04)

#54

I don’t take my child here because I am too scared they could run off and fall into the river

Jessica Daer (Sidmouth, 2021-05-04)

#55

This petition is completely correct with raising this issue. It is a tragedy waiting to happen, and HAS to be money worth spending. I know that many people deliberately avoid using this play area because of this, which is such a shame.

Maddy Winslade (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#56

The fence that has been put up is insufficient!

Lucy Harriet (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#58

I’m signing because I have a 2 year old who could potentially run out of the park and fall into the river! For years now I have always thought it seemed dangerous to have no fencing opposite the park. I’m so pleased someone has raised this issue. Please make it safer for our children. There have already been too many adults who have fallen in to the quay, let’s not wait for a child to!

Elizabeth Breban (Exeter , 2021-05-04)

#60

This park is very close to water and I believe as a parent this pathway used by hundreds of families all the time needs to be made safer and fencing put up all the way along.

Charlotte Canniff (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#63

I am one of your cities childminders and agree with safeguarding concerns.

Louise Rendle (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#67

Child play areas provided by organisations must be safe from as many hazards as possible. This current fence does not meet this criteria

Richard Clark (Exeter, 2021-05-04)

#68

I don’t want it to take a tragedy to make the park and surrounding area safe.

Emma Polak (Exeter , 2021-05-04)

#76

This is such a serious accident waiting to happen. I wouldn't wish any parent or guardian to be faced with the trauma of a child being hit by a fast bicycle or even worse a child ending up with the river Exe!!

Anne Mackay (Exeter, 2021-05-05)

#79

This is a safety issue

Hana Alderton-Parr (Exeter, 2021-05-05)

#85

It makes sense to have a fence that protects children. This isn’t adequate as not long enough. Please apply common sense

Claire Turner (Exeter, 2021-05-05)

#88

I have 2 small children who use this park and the proximity of the river has always made me a bit uncomfortable. Although everyone is vigilant with their children in this park it would only take a moment's inattention for a child to make it to the river!

Kiri Thompson (Exeter, 2021-05-06)

#90

I have 2 children 5 and under and my son is autistic and is not aware of dangers and also runs off often. I like to visit this playground when I take my children for a walk along the Quay but I don't feel it is safe and if my son was to run out and fall or jump into the deep water it could be fatal especially as he cannot swim. I believe a safety fence should be put up a reasonable way along and not just the 2 panels that are currently there

Natalie Tatler (Exeter, 2021-05-06)

#91

Because it’s a ridiculously placed piece of railing, that is not fit for purpose. I’ve yet to find a single toddler that likes walking in a straight line, can cycle/ scooter in a straight line, or run in a straight line with the added attraction of sparkly water on a summer day! This is a tragic accident waiting to happen. As a fully trained lifeguard I can assure you this will only end up in misery and upset for the family of a child’s drowning before the council takes notice. Descent fencing needs to be implemented now, not after a tragedy!

Joanna Broadhurst (Exeter, 2021-05-06)

#97

I have small grandchildren who love this park, but it is very dangerous as it stands.

Rosalind Leveridge (Cowley, 2021-05-07)

#100

This is madness
protect children’s lives

Richard jones (Sidmouth, 2021-05-08)

#101

My children play at this park and my 2 year old loves running, especially away from me.

Louise Jocelyn (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#104

I care about the safety or our children and parks should by made safe.

Sarah Parkhouse (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#106

I think this is an important safety issue.

Maria Garcías (Exeter , 2021-05-08)

#114

The railings installed outside the play park are not long enough to protect children who may slip out of the gate - it need to be linked to the flood wall and towards the bridge. Children do not travel in straight lines, especially toddlers.

Elizabeth Tebbutt (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#117

It is a worry and I have a toddler too

Jade Pinder (Exeter , 2021-05-08)

#119

This is an accident waiting to happen

Carly Lewis (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#120

I live nearby the playground and have often thought that there should be more safety measures put along the bank particularly opposite the gate to the playground..

Sandra Panteney (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#127

I’m signing because I know how important it is to have secure gates/ fencing on a play park... especially so close to the river... toddlers and young children can move scarily fast and are not aware of the dangers of a river!

Yasmin Thierry (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#130

For the safety of our children

Lucy Wills (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#136

It’s a serious danger of drowning near a small child’s play park!!

Donna Suttong (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#139

I’m signing because last week my toddler tried to leave the park without me and is too young to know how dangerous it is. Also a couple of years ago I was sitting down there when a woman’s baby in a pushchair started rolling towards the water, she was distracted for a few seconds when leaving the park with her toddler.

Sarah Cavanagh (Exeter , 2021-05-08)

#140

The current safety measures are inadequate and should be improved asap before a young child
is drowned.

Lyn Hope (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#141

I m mother of 2little Kids and safety is really important for me

Kamila Bielecka (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#142

The safety of our children is paramount, not only falling in the water but if the swans have babies that can be dangerous too.

Debra Perry (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#143

I'm signing because I've seen children charging along the path, usually looking behind them. Toddlers are fast, it would be so easy for my daughter to fall in and I'd hate to think of it happening to a family when it could be prevented .

Tamsin Hopgood (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#145

My child finds it fun to run away and also loves water so could easily head down that bank towards to river and slip and fall in, and he can’t swim. The bank is so steep that I may not know that he has run away and then I won’t be able to see down the bottom of the bank if I’m in that park

Sonia F-P (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#146

Safety reasons for risk of drowning

Lorraine Traynor (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#147

You have made the park for a younger age and taken it away from all ages like it used to be when it was in the car park where the harvester is. I would also like to see the grass beside used for park equipment for all age children starting with older children middle school age and than up to high school age with some swings or something facing the river and climbing frame, a big slide, down Exmouth they used to have those pull swings, I saw a round about that children could work themselves with a lever . I don’t understand why you made it just for small children in the beginning, it also needs a bit of shelter from the strong winds and sun people can get skin cancer you know plus the rain. In the old park there was a big concrete shelter, horse, seasaw, round about, four swings etc it was a big square park probably double the size of the one by the quay, there needs to be more parks and bigger parks as we could actually run around in them

Natasha Hannaford (Exeter, 2021-05-08)

#151

This is a sensible & reasonable request with small cost involved to the taxpayer but with potentially large consequences to parents & children.
