I wholeheartedly support the petition.
Sir Peter Ohlson Bt.

peter ohlson (Richmond, 2020-11-26)

#205

The road change has made it more dangerous

Robert Owens (Richmond, 2020-11-26)

#206

This cycle lane is a disaster, particularly for the income stream of Kew Gardens. I have yet to see a single cyclist use it!

Robin Miller (Twickenham, 2020-11-26)

#207

Increase in congestion and car parking in residential streets nearby

Jon Webster (Richmond, 2020-11-27)

#210

Will discourage visitors to Kew gardens, just when they are needing visitors back !
Impact on local roads for visitors to find car parking spaces, where will coaches park too ?

Gillian Khan (Peterborough, 2020-11-27)

#212

The road has been ruined by the ridiculous unnecessary cycle lane

Martin Wonfor (Richmond , 2020-11-27)

#216

The introduction of a cycle lane has prevented me from enjoying Kew Gardens. When i visit on Boxing Day i have no idea where i will be able to park. Cyclists pay no road tax yet enjoy all the benefits.

Julie Hill (Twickenham, 2020-11-27)

#217

I am signing because the new cycle way restrictions are dangerous and poorly marked poorly used ,would fail to protect the cyclist and a danger to vehicles at corners and incase of emergency .

Pamela Yates (Richmond, 2020-11-27)

#218

Displacement parking and the extra mileage people coming by car will have to drive to find parking. Not everyone can ride bikes due to age or balancing problems, and 2 or three buses to get to a kew is time consuming

Vernon Burgess (East Sheen, London, 2020-11-27)

#219

I'm signing because I'm against what has been done here - I drove both ways along it today when taking groceries to my brother. The lack of parking must have implications for adjoining local roads and the road really isn't big enough for a cycle lane each side.

Rosemary Grave (London, 2020-11-27)

#224

I am a member of Kew Gardens and am now unable to visit as often as I would like due to Parking restrictions, the cycle lane is underused and is full of leaves and a the ‘wands’ are hazzard to emergency vehicles. Cycle lane without wands should be enforced during the week and removed at weekends.

Steve West (Isleworth, 2020-11-29)

#225

This lane is unnecessary for cyclists ( of which I have been one) and puts many off visiting Kew Gardens.

Lynn West (Isleworth, 2020-11-29)

#226

Yet again cyclists are being given preferential treatment over other road users.
It will cause resentment with local house holds and create more pollution.

Tony Davies (Isleworth, 2020-11-29)

#227

I used to enjoy going to Kew Gardens regularly but as a pensioner cannot afford the £7 parking fee on a regular basis. If this ridiculous cycle lane continues I will have to stop my membership.

Roger Messum (Hanworth, 2020-11-29)

#228

Since the parking restrictions on the road outside Kew Gardens my husband and I have not been able to make our 3 times weekly visit because of our age.

Maureen Pink (HanwothFeltham , 2020-11-29)

#229

I feel very strongly that Kew Gardens is extremely important for the well-being & education of all its many visitors. I am a member of Kew & as a pensioner, at £7 a time for parking, my visits are sadly rare now.
When will we stop this hysteria re cyclists & their rights. The lane is rarely used after 10am.

Anne Messum (Hanworth , 2020-11-30)

#230

As a Kew Road resident and a cyclist I perceive there is no need for this total upheaval, causing such added distress to both residents and struggling business' , extra congestion causing emergency services to be very delayed, parking chaos in side streets etc.
I don't feel it has been thought through adequately and needs re-appraisal.

Sarah Collis (Richmond , 2020-11-30)

#231

Not only does Kew Gardens do remarkable work but it is an oasis of calm. The restorative effect of nature in body and mind cannot be emphasised enough especially in these times.
Kew Gardens only gets government support for the work of the Seed Bank. All other income is generated by Membership; Visitors entrance fee; restaurant/cafe and Shop revenue. Without this it won’t be possible to maintain the Gardens as we know them.
People have heard of Kew Gardens not just locally or nationally but internationally and like to visit it. It is unreasonable to expect them not to be able to park, or anyone with difficult expensive journeys, on tight budgets, large families and/or elderly people who cannot easily hop on/off trains & busses or those recovering from operations, knee, hip, back problems etc that makes life difficult for them.
I can in normal times use the bus, but if I want to visit Wakehurst or Wisley or a National Trust property in Surrey, Kent etc I drive. I would not go if I could not park. The same will apply to anyone wanting to come to Kew from those areas. They will not come if a doubt about parking.
Public transport needs firstly to be deemed safe, at the moment we are still being advised to only use it for essential journeys such as to get to work AND to be much cheaper (especially rail fares across country) and frequent enough to encourage and help those who can use it.
It is the wrong time to introduce this cycle lane. Whilst wishing to keep pollution low for all the time Kew Road is the feeder road for M4 & North Circular this will not be achieved. What monitoring and testing has been done before and after of pollution levels and what is the cycle usage count. On the 3 occasions I have walked from Victoria Gate back along the Kew Road the most I have seen in it was 3 and 1 on the outside of the lane!

Janet Dean (Kingston Upon Thames, 2020-11-30)

#232

1) I think that this cycle lane is dangerous. It restricts the size of an already relatively narrow arterial road, connecting to Kew Bridge and the N/S Circular Rd. Fast cyclist refuse to use it, further restricting the flow of traffic. When busses stop, cars attempt to overtake in the narrowed road, which is an accident waiting to happen. The white reflective lane posts are dangerously confusing when entering or exiting side roads, especially at night.
2) It should not have been created without the Council creating adequate dedicated parking for cars and coaches first. No coaches should be allowed to park around Kew Green, a site of outstanding beauty and historic interest, as well as a tourist attraction, helping bring business to the Gardens and local businesses. Coaches around the Green would ruin this, quite apart from significantly adding to pollution.
3) The white reflective lane posts are unsightly in a Conservation Area. Cars are now parking in side roads, causing annoyance and frustration to local residents, who pay for parking permits, but, during opening times, now often find that they cannot park close to their homes.

John Farr (Kew, 2020-12-02)

#234

The loss of available parking along Kew Road has deterred people from visiting the gardens from 10am onwards and has increased parking on the side roads enormously after midday. Where are the school coaches etc. expected to park?

Julie Winstock (Ealing , 2020-12-08)

#246

The daily traffic congestion on the Kew Road has become ridiculous and helps nobody.

Sridhar Venkiteswaran (Richmond Surrey, 2020-12-09)

#249

The new traffic system is plain stupid.

Willian Dudley (Richmond, 2020-12-09)

#252

This traffic scheme heavily penalises Kew as the site becomes ever more inaccessible. It goes against our drive to be more inclusive, promote diversity and bring in children, student and people from all walks of life. Having Kew road partitioned creates barriers for accessing the site, demotivates people from visiting one of London’s top attractions and puts at risk this marvellous World Heritage site.

Cliff Heskins (Claygate, 2020-12-09)

#268

Will prejudice the viability of the world’s leading botanical gardens, definitive seed bank and botanical research cohort. The lane is little used, increases pollution by causing prolonged traffic jams and is disruptive to Kew life.

Keith Johnson (Kew, 2020-12-09)

#269

I think the changes are dangerous for cyclists and cause traffic jams for cars. The lack of parking will put people off visiting Kew Gardens.

Carolyn McCombe (Kew, 2020-12-09)

#270

Object to the problems this ill-thought scheme will cause to the residents and businesses of Kew and to the future of the gardens.

Jennie Johnson (Kew, 2020-12-09)

#272

I am concerned about the financial impact on Kew Gardens. I am also concerned about the resulting air pollution and the way in which these measures were introduced.

Julie Freemantle (RICHMOND, 2020-12-09)

#273

This is very badly thought out scheme both for road users and Kew Gardens customers. Please, please return to the pre-Covid road layout.

Paul Free (Twickenham , 2020-12-09)

#276

Many older people and mums and children cannot easily get to Kew Gardens which is a great shame.

Sue Vernon (Richmind, 2020-12-09)

#277

The disadvantages of the scheme outweigh the advantages.
The narrowed roadway is unsuitable for buses and HGVs.
Cyclists persist in ignoring the cycle lane and cycle in the roadway, endangering themselves.

Martin Cross (Richmond, 2020-12-09)

#278

Im signing because this change Is causing additional displacement parking putting further pressure on Kew Green and residential roads around Kew Road.

· Will force 60 coaches per day onto Kew Green, with extra infrastructure, loss of car parking and using a new one-way system that residents roundly rejected 20 years ago.

· Ruins the beauty of Kew Road.

· Threatens businesses and ruins the economic recovery of Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, a World Heritage Site.

anthony williams (richmond, 2020-12-09)

#279

I'm signing this because I don't live anywhere near Kew - never visited the place - yet I can sign silly petitions started by climate-change denying Tories who only car about car parking. That's the problem with these bullsh*t petitions - any idiot anywhere can sign them. The Royal Botanic Gardens has never objected to the local traffic schemes, yet local - usually Tory - campaigners keep claiming that RGB is against them. The "experimental traffic scheme" will be subject to a council-managed consultation, which will have the advantage of not being hijacked by people like me who don't live anywhere near Richmond.

Mike Arsburn-Deezil (Folkstone, 2020-12-09)

#281

The gardens will die without visiter

PAUL Richardson (London, 2020-12-09)

#282

I'd hate Kew Gardens to close

Isn Alexander (Chessington, 2020-12-09)

#283

Because Kew Gardens is losing vital revenue from coach parties who now are not able to park in Kew Road

Raymond Macklin (Kingston Upon Thames, 2020-12-09)

#286

Removing the off peak parking in Kew Road makes visiting Kew Gardens more difficult and makes residential roads busier. The cycle lane is hardly used after 10 when parking used to be allowed.

Kate McMahon (London, 2020-12-09)

#289

The introduction of this cycle lane and it’s withdrawal of parking has impacted local residents and endangered attendance to RBG Kew.

Izabella Bobrowski-Evans (Twickenham , 2020-12-10)

#290

The new scheme is causing traffic chaos and increasing emissions from vehicles. The cycle lanes are seldom used and it drastically reduces parking options for locals and tourists.

Steve Fowles (Richmond, 2020-12-10)

#291

I am passionate for Kew Gardens survival. Abolishing all parking down Kew Road is madness. Kew Gardens has a relatively tiny car park backing onto the river which can no way accommodate all the visitors who arrive via coach and private transport. I deem this decision by the LBRUT Council to install a bike lane the full length of Kew Road frankly completely and utterly selfish to the survival of the National/World scientific heritage site.

Sali Keefe (London , 2020-12-10)

#293

Empty bike lanes, displaced parking, help Kew Gardens

Judith Bell (London, 2020-12-10)

#296

A world famous institution like Kew Gardens should not be compromised by political wrangling.

Robert Nesbitt (London, 2020-12-10)

#297

I am signing because I totally disapprove of the authoritarian way the council has imposed these monstrous restrictions to traffic on Kew Road causing unnecessary inconvenience and danger to all who use this road

Prodaman Sarwal (Richmond , 2020-12-10)

#305

Kew road currently is very dangerous and we need to act to change.

Steven Allen (RICHMOND, 2020-12-11)

#308

I am signing because the new system is narrower and far more dangerous for drivers and furthermore is detrimental to Kew Gardens visitor numbers

Lee Taylor-Ryan (Middlesex, 2020-12-11)

#309

I live and work locally. The new restrictions are so detrimental to my life, I can no longer park and my journey from Chiswick has gone from 5 minutes to 20 minutes. Side roads are congested, the bike lanes are barely used air quality because of traffic jams is appalling.

Lucinda Rodgers (Kew, 2020-12-11)

#314

What the council have done is undemocratic and makes no sense for the neighbourhood

Helen Whitten (RICHMOND, 2020-12-11)

#315

I regard these very hastily erected cycle routes as highly disruptive and has made parking for the visitors to the Royal Botanic Gardens much more difficult, particularly those arriving by coach, who are usually elderly people or school children

John Moses (Richmond, 2020-12-11)

#316

I am signing because the cycle Lane in Kew Road causes congestion and has a detrimental effect on visitor attendance for Kew Gardens

Christopher Powell-Smith (Richmond, 2020-12-11)

#318

I thought the cycle Lane that was there already, which was only operational during peak travel times was adequate.

Janet Morgans (Richmond, 2020-12-11)

#328

The trial gas created chaos on the streets opposite Kew Gardens, not only for residents but for visitors to the gardens, delivery vehicles and traffic in general. The changes have increased pollution in the area. Prior to the trial, traffic was orderly and did not affect the streets to the same extent as now. Please shelve this trial.

Gillian Nelson (Richmond, 2020-12-12)

#332

This scheme has not been thought through.

Niki Roscow (Kew, 2020-12-13)

#333

I am even more interested in protecting kew gardens and making it easily accessable, than I am (even as a cyclist) in having those cycle lanes

Richard Goddard jones (Kew gardens, 2020-12-13)

#335

I volunteer at Kew Gardens and this would make it hard to find alternate parking space. The amount of cyclist that use this road does not warrant the change.

Joe Minuti (Hampton, Middlesex, 2020-12-13)

#337

Signing just to say that it is utterly disingenuous indeed scurrilous to associate this with the name of the Royal Botanic Gardens, just to try to gain credibility for two people's desire to hinder positive change

James Jones (Richmond, 2020-12-13)

#338

You need access for people with difficulty walking to be dropped near the venue and for general visitors with small children as parking us quite a distance

francescajowsey@gmail.com Jowsey (Hertfordshire, 2020-12-14)

#345

As a supporter of Kew Gardens I fear this affects coach visits and many others who can no longer park. With two young children I have visited a lot less than I would have done recently because the parking has become really difficult or very expensive in the car park. The train line does not serve us very easily.

Sarah Hill (Twickenham, 2020-12-14)

#348

I object to council scheme

Angela McCready (London, 2020-12-15)

#350

I’m a keen cyclist and I live in Ennerdale Road but the traffic is worse since the lanes have been opened. The number of cyclists using them is negligible and our road is a rat run during congestion. Also concerned that Kew Gardens is suffering. There must be a common sense solution that caters for the many and not the few.

IAN TILEY (Richmond , 2020-12-15)

#351

It is utterly ridiculous... starts half way up the road and stops a few hundred metres later where the road narrows and will never be wide enough to accommodate. Total waste of money with little or no real thought behind it.

Lisa Mitchell (London, 2020-12-15)

#352

The cycle lanes are poor in design as demonstrated by cyclists still using the pavements and road. The lanes receive light usage. The narrower main carriageway seems more dangerous, is more susceptible to full closure and emergency vehicles are impeded. The local side roads are now heavily congested with displaced visitor traffic (still awaiting CPZ results) and people struggling to park have said they will be cancelling Kew membership. A grown up consultation would be welcome rather than the current childish mudslinging via social media.

Elaine Dunn (Kew, 2020-12-15)

#353

I'm concerned about the impact on RGB Kew- many people rely on the Kew Road parking to visit the gardens and it seems ridiculous to remove the parking when we need to encourage people to enjoy outdoor spaces safely and to avoid public transport. Removing parking also increases congestion on the side roads. The cycle lane does not seem to attract many cyclists which is unsurprising as it looks dangerous and starts and stops suddenly.

Alison Sharpe (Ealing, 2020-12-15)

#354

I'm just a visitor to Kew. The residents have a good case and I'd like to record my support for them.

John Wilson (HARROW, 2020-12-15)

#356

My 91 year old mother lives in Lichfield Road and parking is worse than ever and impacts taking her to hospital/doctors appointments. I'm also concerned should an ambulance be needed in an emergency that it could get down the Kew Road without its access being blocked.

Wendy Rushton (Staines , 2020-12-16)

#361

I am signing this petition to thank all the above signatories for giving me the most amusement I have had for a long time by spouting so much deluded nonsense.

Aussiebwoy @kew (Richmond TW9, 2020-12-16)

#363

RBG Kew will lose essential custom from families and coach groups
Displacement parking is a major problem
The barriers look very ugly
There was negligible need for the additional protection to cyclists outside morning commuter time

John Philpot (Richmond, 2020-12-17)

#364

I object to the new cycle lanes because displacement parking is a problem for Kew residents, Kew Gardens will lose trade because of reduced visitor numbers and the cycle wands are an eyesore.

Kathy Philpot (Richmond , 2020-12-17)

#374

Living on the Kew Road I can see every day what a stupid idea it was to create permanent cycle lanes along it. Very few cycles are seen hourly. Worst of all the impact on the Botanical Gardens displacing visitors wishing to park to side roads clogging them up...

Christine Speight (Richmond , 2020-12-19)

#377

I'm signing because the narrowing of Kew road is a disaster.parking if cars in the side roads caused congestion and residents cannot park outside their houses. Very few cyclists use the cycle lane and come out into the main traffic when overtaking. In any event the cycle lane does not go down the whole of Kew Road so cyclists have to go in the main stream in any event. It is a financial disaster for Kew Gardens as there is nowhere for the coaches to park.

Gillian Coverdale-Smith (Richmond, 2020-12-19)

#378

I don’t want coaches parking on Kew Green and ruining a beautiful part of Kew. I also don’t want increased parking restrictions on my road.

Linda Whittaker (Richmond, 2020-12-19)

#379

Kew Road is now dangerous for cyclists leaving the road.Kew needs the extra parking outside the rush hour

Anthony Smith (Kew, 2020-12-20)

#380

I agree

Roger Holden (Richmond, 2020-12-20)

#381

I object to the tyranny of local authorities using Covid as an excuse to impose traffic regulations without following due process and local consultation.

Richard Kaczmarski (Kew Gardens, 2020-12-20)

#385

Puts even more pressure on Kew Green and adjoining roads adjacent to Kew Road and is an ill thought out scheme which should be removed forthwith. How much more do the residents of Kew Green have to put up with ?

Philip West (Richmond , 2020-12-21)

#387

I fully support the protest.

Mary Ward (London , 2020-12-21)

#388

I’m signing because I think the new system is not well thought through and creates it’s own safety concerns.

Jackie Rixson (Richmond, 2020-12-22)

#389

Kew Road and gardens are important to many people. Moreover it is unprofessional, even devious, practice not to consult with residents or businesses about such plans, and simply unethical to increase polluting traffic that also endangers the lives of road users

Eleanor Bowen (Gravesend , 2020-12-22)

#390

The cycle lane bollards cause queues behind stopped busses and inhibit the work and progress of emergency service vehicles. The new restrictions do nothing to stop speeding motorcycles.

Nigel Worn (Richmond, 2020-12-24)

#395

I agree that the scheme is an unnecessary imposition by interested parties who are aware that had the issue been put to a democratic vote it would never have happened

Jolyon Baldwin (Richmond , 2020-12-28)

#397
