I support the independent scene and organizations in Ljubljana and Slovenia. Slovenia with these spots in contemporary culture was one of the unique countries toward the quality that arises from these communities of art and culture. Change your priorities.

We support the great work organizations in Metelkova have been doing in the past decades - and now, they are punished exactly because of this. Metelkova should be used for the public good and social change. Solidarity from Zagreb!

The Mirovni Institute's work is of capital importance specially now in the amidst of risk of human rights and elements such as the physical place they develop their job cannot be threatened in these hectic times.

The health of any democracy is determined by the extent to which politics and politicians support freedom and autonomy. The more restrictions, the more the state shows (and performs) its insecurity and anxiety about itself.

My European comparative research has profited enormously from cooperation with the Mirovni institut, and it would be a great loss to the research community, and indeed to the reputation of Slovenia in Europe if the institut should be forced to close!

Because I know that attack on the civic space is, in fact, an attack on people who are fighting for freedom, the right of every single person to think and act as a free and responsible citizen.

I have visited the Mirovni Institute at the Metelkova 6 in the 2000s and have collaborated with its scholars in European projects the Institute had led. In turn, the have visited the Aleksanteri Institute at the University of Helsinki. This collaboration continues through the non-profit Co-operative Trialogue. In our opinion these actions by the Slovenian Government are detrimental to scholars and activists throughout Europe.

Metelkova has a symbolic place in my heart as I worked there a few years as volunteer and I believe that arts and culture are important mechanisms for voicing citizens' dissent and the civil society actors currently residing in Metelkova 6 play an important part in promoting civil freedoms.

It is a scandal that the Slovenian government evicts the flourishing cultural scene of its capital. This is a political attack against critical art, not worthy of a European nation! We must stand up for the arts and free thinking.

As a CSO activist and a researcher, I have had the pleasure to visit and work with some of the organisations targeted with this action. As a concert goer, I have spent many nights at Metelkova. The resolved premise issue of the organisations inhabiting the Metelkova space was an excellent example which I gladly shared of how a country can support the sustainability of its CSO sector. I find the attack by the Ministry of Culture unacceptable and an afront to the freedom of association, but also on human rights in general, since this will undermine the imensly important work that these organisations are going regarding issues such as migration, culture, discrimination, and so on. This situation is further aggravated by the other measures, such as blocking payments which directly target cultural and other CSO workers and threaten their bare livelihood which is also unacceptable.
Throughout the years, governments changed, but Metelkova remained as not only a simbol but also a driver of freedom, creativity, progress and change.
For these reasons, I strongly condemn the attacks by the Ministry of Culture, I take them as an afront to CSOs everywhere in Europe and as part of the larger attacks for shrinking civil society space, and I support the Responce to the request as quoted herein.
