Great course, a real landmark

Gregory Cavanagh (London, 2020-09-13)

I’m signing because I have played this course many times over the last 40 years. It would be a shame to lose such a facility as many young golfers learn their game on this challenging but forgiving course. I have only ever witnessed harmony between walkers, golfers and the resident sheep etc. Why spoil a facility which is currently suitable for all recreation.

David Evans (Cheltenham , 2020-09-13)

#1608

As an enthusiastic golfer, I have enjoyed many rounds on Cleeve & have happy memories of society days on there. It’s both an interesting & challenging course & it would be tragic to close the course & deny youngsters the opportunity to take up golf. Both my sons had lessons with the Cleeve pro & they both now have single figure handicaps.

Colin Williams (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

#1609

Played with locally based friends on a number of occasions, and it is a lovely heathland/inland links type course, providing a very accessible alternative to the more common parkland type courses, with fantastic views and a real feeling of experiencing the wilder side of the Cotswolds.

Michael McClenan (Warrington, 2020-09-13)

#1614

It will be a shame to loose such a great golf course, and part of Cheltenham's history. A test of golf like any top links course in the land

jason chaplin (Cheltenham, 2020-09-13)

#1615

Not only is Cleve a excellent golf course it is also a piece of history

Daniel Tite (Sturminster Newton, 2020-09-13)

#1621

I’m signing this petition because Cleeve is where I first started golf and it was a fantastic place to learn. If lost it would be a tragedy

Paul Bevan (Bredon, 2020-09-13)

#1622

I used to be a member and concerned about its closure.

Tony Ballard (Paignton, 2020-09-13)

#1624

Cleeve Hill Golf Course is the only municipal course around that makes the game accessible to all. It is a stunning & testing course that I have enjoyed playing on many occasions. It would be such a shame to lose this stunning course.

Daniel Bevan (Tewkesbury , 2020-09-13)

#1625

The further it goes from being a golf course, the closer it comes to being housing

Kevin Derrett (Bishops Cleeve , 2020-09-13)

#1631

You can’t let the Council wipe out 125 years of history, there must be a way to save this famous old club!

Avril Pratt (Cheltenham , 2020-09-14)

#1632

I love playing at Cleeve and want it to stay open

Crispin Fletcher-Louis (Cheltenham, 2020-09-14)

#1633

what a mix of fantastic views, competitive friendships, keeping fit and let's not forget, some really brilliant golf holes. Money is tight but TBC should be transparent about the size of the shortfall and say what it can afford. In turn the club needs to look at membership fees and at alternative sources of funding. Talk to Murray Toms at Cheltenham Town.

Robert Drake (Oxford, 2020-09-14)

#1635

Appalled with the destruction of public amenities without consultation.

Christine Marsh (Cheltenham , 2020-09-14)

#1636

Its the 1st golf course i ever played and still enjoy it 40 years later. It deserves a chance to prove it can be a success with good management and some imagination

Andrew Clarke (Gloucester, 2020-09-14)

#1640

Typical Tewkesbury council idiocy!

Steve Mskeoeace (Winchcombe , 2020-09-14)

#1643

I’m signing because the golf course is good and well used just to expensive for membership

Robert Arthur (Tewkesbury, 2020-09-14)

#1645

I've played Cleeve many times and it's one of the finest municipal courses in the country. To not have this continue after such a history and with a clear demand for it would be a travesty.

Dave Green (Worcester, 2020-09-14)

#1646

I wish golf to continue at Cleeve Hill

Alan Stenton (Cheltenham, 2020-09-14)

#1652

I am a keen golfer who has enjoyed many happy hours on the Cleeve Hill course and believe it is a valuable community amenity, which should be preserved.

Robert Peters (Cheltenham, 2020-09-14)

#1655

My early years of golf were at Cleeve. It is a golf course available to all and cannot be allowed to disappear.

Mike Borrie (Cheltenham, 2020-09-14)

#1656

I would like Cleeve Hill Golf Course to remain open!

Michael Sumner (Cheltenham, 2020-09-14)

#1661

I've played Cleeve Hill GC many times and have friends who are members there.
It would be so sad to see such a lovely popular GC going to waste. 😢

Barbara Aird (Glasgow , 2020-09-14)

#1664

Once we lose this beautiful piece of history, it will be lost forever

Brian Lomas (Stow on the Wold, 2020-09-14)

#1667

I've played here on many a summer evening and was so sad to hear of the news of its iminent closure.

The golf course is, compared to other golf courses, low maintenance due to its location on well-draining, common land. It commands some of the best views in the country from every hole.

As for the clubhouse, there is so much potential here. The building itself is full of character, and if someone were willing to spend a modest amount of time/effort/cash on modernising it both inside and out it could be a thriving cafe/restaurant as well as a clubhouse.

This really is too good of an asset to lose for both golfers and non-golfers alike!

Ryan D (Cheltenham, 2020-09-14)

#1668

This facility should not be closed down. The lovely clubhouse should be restored. It is great for golfers and walkers.

Sheila Gardner (Cheltenham, 2020-09-14)

#1673

I'm signing because Cleeve Cloud is a unique and very special course and it would be a significant loss to all those that play as members and indeed to those that enjoy your open competitions, league matches and more. The views are unparalleled anywhere in the county and anywhere else, this would be high on the agenda to preserve for all to enjoy for many more years to come.

Andrea DAWSON (Gloucester, 2020-09-14)

#1674

Cleeve GC is one of the most memorable parts of my upbringing and a reason I go back to Cheltenham multiple times a year. The course is so much fun, accessible and cheap and has something for everyone as well as not interrupting at all with the rest of the hill. Would surely be utter madness to close it for such elitist purposes.

Tom Grew (Cheltenham, 2020-09-14)

#1675

I love this golf course. It should be a listed monument like an old building. It is one of the oldest courses in England.

Steve Rundle (Tewkesbury , 2020-09-14)

#1678

Part of our history that needs to be saved.

Simon Connelly (Cheltenham, 2020-09-15)

#1683

Cleeve is a cracking golf course for all levels, affordable and a fantastic location. Unbelievable to think it should close. Golfing vandalism

Bruce Edwards (Cheltenham , 2020-09-15)

#1685

It would break my heart, it’s stunning

Shaun Dennis (Cheltenham , 2020-09-15)

#1688

The club has been a large part of my father’s life for many years

Claire Townsend (Gloucestershire , 2020-09-15)

#1690

Its a great course with a lot of history & good for the local community.

Peter Dangerfield (Tewkesbury, 2020-09-15)

#1692

I started playing golf at Cleeve in 1976. I’ve got wonderful memories from playing up there. I was devastated to learn we may lose this gem of a course at the end of March. It’s an absolutely vital part of the golfing community, offering affordable golf to all. It must be kept open!

Brendan Sheridan (Cheltenham, 2020-09-15)

#1693

I am signing because we use this lovely course for an annual charity event for Cancer Research. Also a go to place in the winter as course drains well.

David Gretton (Bristol, 2020-09-15)

#1700

I play golf in a society at cleeve. An amazing varied breathtaking course.

Andrew Gretton (Evesham, 2020-09-15)

#1701

It’s an outrage that people have had no say in the matter . It’s an amazing place .

Carol Richards (Cheltenham, 2020-09-15)

#1702

I love this beautiful golf course.

Andrew Evans (Cheltenham , 2020-09-15)

#1706

It’s a beautiful and historic golf course which should stay open for all the local people. It’s great for exercise and socialising.

Caroline Osborn (Gloucestershire , 2020-09-15)

#1708

I am signing because I really can’t believe such a great asset of the local area will be lost.

Lisa Summerbell (Bishops Cleeve, 2020-09-15)

#1710

Ex employee and one of the best courses in the area

Simon Pearce (Gloucester , 2020-09-15)

#1711

Cleeve is a golfing legend and provided access to golf that many would find unaffordable otherwise. It is also one of the countries best courses for its views.

John McNeill (Cheltenham, 2020-09-16)

#1712

This is an interesting old and established golf club, and it’s thanks to that club that is on common land that the land is kept clean and up to date and well maintained.
This was the 1st corse that I ever played and because it was on common land there was no snobbiness to new players, all were welcome and still are. It is Linx golf in the Cotswold hills, and a very challenging course for players from scratch to 28. This corse must remain so that new, underprivileged players can learn a great sport without having to find a fortune in green fees.
Although I no longer am able to play golf due to an injury I still enjoy the walk around cleeve and the corse.

Philip Stacey (Gloucester , 2020-09-16)

#1718

I have played on Cleeve Golf Course regularly for over 30 years and it closing for housing is a travesty

Matt Byrne (Cheltenham, 2020-09-16)

Steph Parker (CHELTENHAM, 2020-09-16)

Roy Wheeler (Gloucestershire, 2020-09-16)

This is a brilliant and affordable course with so many happy memories. It would be such a shame to see it go.

Thomas Wilson (Cheltenham, 2020-09-16)

#1733

Open land especially where animals are able to roam freely should be protected at all costs.

Frances Pritchard (Berkeley, 2020-09-17)

#1736

This is a great golf course!! Would be gutted to see it go

Steven Buffin (Tewkesbury , 2020-09-17)

#1737

This is a wonderful golf course which blends in with the local nature and should be retained for the community

Derek Ling (Hereford, 2020-09-17)

#1740

sad to see this place go, so many memories of this place.
Hopefully it can be saved, it has so much potential if in the right hands. Just needs updating

Francesca messenger (Gloucestershire , 2020-09-17)

#1742

It is a beautiful course with fantastic views
also good for walkers.

Malcolm Morgan (Stafford, 2020-09-17)

#1744

We visit Cleeve at least once a year from the Thame/Aylesbury area because we love playing golf and enjoying the clubhouse at Cleeve. The joy is in playing a wonderfully natural course with tremendous views having had a great breakfast first.

David Luther (Aylesbury, 2020-09-17)

#1745

Cleeve Hill is a historic and excellent course, set in one of the best locations for a golf course in the UK. The turf is ideal for golf and it would be a tragedy to lose it. Although more rugged, it has much more character than all the other local courses.

Barry Wild (Cheltenham, 2020-09-17)

#1749

My dad, brother and nieces have enjoyed playing this golf course for years. It is a course of outstanding natural beauty and the best bit is that it is there for anyone to enjoy. If it closes, there will only be private golf clubs in the area, which then makes golf an exclusive sport, depriving many of the opportunity to play. Very sad reflection of this time of selfish interests, please do not let this club be a victim of a throw away age, it is so worth fighting for !!

Rebecca Chandler (Bourg-Saint-Maurice, 2020-09-17)

#1750

This golf course is a gem, a part of our golfing heritage. It needs to be run properly. It is always busy when I have played it. Everything is terribly under priced. It should be marketed as a England best inland links course. The old clubhouse is part of its charm. I'm afraid you dont understand what an asset you have.

Stephen Hanks (Thame, 2020-09-17)

#1755

Obvious reasons

David Gavens (London , 2020-09-17)

#1757

It would be a travesty if Cleeve hill golf course shut down. One of my favourite courses and it’s on my doorstep! Steeped in history and designed by Tom Morris !!!!!!

Stuart Archibald (Gloucester , 2020-09-17)

#1758

The tradition should continue for current golfers and those to come. A unique course.

Trudy Bouligny (Cheltenham , 2020-09-18)

#1759

I used to live at Postlip Hall and also in Cheltenham. Clever Hill is iconic. So beautiful. It is natural beauty to be enjoyed by everyone. It can be seen from the horse race track too. It just cannot be destroyed/taken-over/ruined. Please keep it protected.

Gabrielle Varvel (Lake Havasu City , 2020-09-18)

#1762

The golf course is unique and the club house is beautifully set into the countryside.

Simon Brown (Cheltenham, 2020-09-18)

#1764

i've played at the club since i was child, it's my favourite course and it's a well known Cheltenham landmark

Phillip Mann (Witney, 2020-09-18)

#1769

This course should remain open

Marcus Rayer (Gloucester, 2020-09-18)

#1771

Closing this cherished local amenity will effect more than the Tewkesbury parish. It as been there for as long as I can remember serving the population of Gloucestershire. I believe closing the golf course will be the first step in closing public access to Cleeve common.

Peter Mann (Cheltenham, 2020-09-18)

#1773

This beautiful course has a history that should not be ended now. People still want to play here - don’t rob us of the opportunity

Nik Hatch (Bristol, 2020-09-18)

#1774

This public golf course is both a historic and continuing community asset. Although some immediate capital investment (how about crowdfunding?) is needed to preserve the ancient clubhouse, TBC should declare how much annual income they will lose if it is allowed to close.

David Kiln (Greet, 2020-09-18)

#1775

This course is a fun challenge which I have often played with my wife and also on occasion on with a visitor from the USA. It would be a sad loss indeed to lose this unusual and distinctive course.

David Knott (Cheltenham, 2020-09-18)

#1776

We want to keep yhe golf course.

Claudio Archer (Gloucester, 2020-09-18)

#1780

A valuable local amenity

Michael Edwards (Cheltenham GL545Uu, 2020-09-18)

#1783

My husband has a deep connection with Cleeve Hill golf course, the course grew him as a person, he won many junior tournaments on the course, and it inspired him to continue to play golf and he went on to achieve a Cambridge Blue in his 20,s. We can see the hill from where we live in Gloucester, and he would like his ashes scattered on the course when he leaves the planet!! Devastated is an understatement! Please save Cleeve Hill Golf Course!!!!

Kate Moriarty (Gloucester, 2020-09-18)

#1784

I play regularly at Cleeve Hill GC.

Kev McPherson (Cheltenham, 2020-09-18)

#1786

A beautiful course with a rich golfing history. A really important resource for regular people to be able to play or learn to play on a course that is affordable, accessible and welcoming to all.

Nicholas Harman (Cheltenham, 2020-09-18)

#1792

This golf course offers important public open space for an affordable game which is exceedingly socially distancing.

James Woods (Ormskirk, 2020-09-19)

its a top course with history......

Simon SMITH (Droitwich Spa, 2020-09-19)
