This decision is a disgrace

George Donald (Bishops Cleeve, 2020-09-09)

#1005

I have a lot of friends who play golf here.

Lucy Carter (Cheltenham , 2020-09-09)

#1007

An avid golfer who has played a great up at cleeve and absolutely love the place. Cant imagine it not being there

Keiran Dewbery (Cheltenham , 2020-09-09)

#1013

I go to the golf club a lot and have lunch. It is a great place to go after walking on the hill.

Gail Wilsdon (Cheltenham, 2020-09-09)

#1018

It’s a massive credit to Cleeve hill and that’s what brings in most visitors

Natalie Wilsdon (Cheltenham , 2020-09-09)

#1019

I have enjoyed Cleeve golf for over 20 years and would be very sad bit to be able to continue doing so. It is the perfect setting for a round of golf and Gloucestershire would be poorer for its loss.

Robin Brown (Tewkesbury, 2020-09-09)

#1022

Myself and many others use the club for lunches and it’s part of the community. Family members have used the golf club for many years.

James Minchin (Cheltenham , 2020-09-09)

#1025

I lived this course as a child. Golf is a great social sport and this club gave me the opportunity to enjoy and learn the sport.

David Jones (Cheltenham , 2020-09-09)

#1031

Want to save the golf club

Matthew King (Tewkesbury, 2020-09-09)

#1034

This golf course and club house should remain open and preserved for future generations.
It provides a valuable sense of community as well as a welcoming spot for walkers and those using the hill for recreational purposes.

David Ryan (Bishops Cleeve , 2020-09-09)

#1035

It is an important use of the hill. Being outdoors with my friends- playing golf has been a essential for my wellbeing. It is an incredible view I can enjoy and keep fit.

James Wragg smith (Cheltenham, 2020-09-09)

#1039

Financially unviable is not a reason, especially after so many years. Tewkesbury councillors need to hang their head in shame.

Nick Gay (Cheltenham , 2020-09-09)

#1040

I'm signing because Golf has been played on Cleeve for over a hundred years and continues to give valuable exercise and enjoyment to those who play their Golf there. They should be able to continue to do so.

Paul Chesworth (Cheltenham, 2020-09-09)

#1044

I’m signing because I love golf and it’s a game for all ages and abilities.

Jill Hensman (Sydney , 2020-09-09)

#1046

Boris wants us to get fit. When my husband relocated here 5 years ago he struggled with this golf course because of the hills. He can now complete the course easily as all the exercise has improved his fitness level. Keep it open, advertise for new members, keep fit.

Lynda Gill (Cheltenham, 2020-09-09)

#1048

I'm signing because it's a great course and brings people to the area. A sell off is short sighted by the council and residents will pay for it in the future. Its a political stunt.

David Qillie (Swindon, 2020-09-09)

#1051

Leeps people active.

Elsie Woodcock (Swansea, 2020-09-09)

#1057

The golf club holds so many memories for me and my family the public needs this space

Hayley Childs (Cheltenham, 2020-09-09)

#1058

Everyone should play golf!

Tim Williams (Cranbrook, 2020-09-09)

#1063

I love the golf club

Sally Boulton (Gloucestershire , 2020-09-09)

#1064

I am signing because this is a unique golf course and a local treasure. We can not afford to lose it.

Julie Greenwood (Cheltenham, 2020-09-09)

#1066

Cleeve is such a beautiful course and has a deep routed history which could be developed a legacy for the next generation. It’s municipal which is much needed especially to introduce new people to the game.

Sue Wilson (Gloucester , 2020-09-09)

#1067

Love this course we play every year with the Benford Nomads Golf Society. The owners are lovely, the food is great, and the course is a real gem in the society calendar.

Stephen Cox (Kenilworth , 2020-09-09)

#1068

This course is an asset to the community.

David Hale (Gloucester, 2020-09-09)

#1069

A golf course has been in the hill for over 100 years - it’s unique and is part of the county’s history.

Lorna Sparkes (Gloucester, 2020-09-09)

#1076

This is an excellent amenity in an unparalleled setting. The club house offers refreshments for walkers on the Cotswolds Way - no other toilet facilities for miles!

Maureen Hazell (CHELTENHAM, 2020-09-10)

#1089

Cleeve Hill is a rare jewel of a golf course where golfers play in the unique cotswold landscape in harmony with visitors. The clubhouse is of architectural feature and provides a much needed refreshment facility to all visitors. The golfers help to ensure that the hill is well maintained for visitors. I urge you to keep this world class facility open as an American friend said the course is better than or equal to many he has played across the world and in his native California.

Michael Cavanagh (CHELTENHAM, 2020-09-10)

#1090

I also have played the course which is a tough test for any golfer especially in windy conditions. The course is unique in the area as it offers the nearest to a links course. If closed it would result in a serious loss of an historic facility.

Mike Harper

Mike HARPER (Wormington Nr Broadway, 2020-09-10)

#1096

I am a British Ex Pat citizen, but was born and spent most of my life in Bishops Cleeve.

This is Golf Course and all its facilities constitute wonderful resort and should be retained indefinately.

David Heathcote (MURRUMBEENA, 2020-09-10)

#1098

I believe this should stay.

A Fletcher (Bredon , 2020-09-10)

#1099

Cleeve hill and the golf Course was part of mine and countless others childhood’s. Regardless of whether walking and dodging missiles, finding golf balls and selling them back to the golfers, bmx riding or illegally scrambling motorbikes or above all else enjoying a round of golf on one of the most scenic and stunning courses ever it Must remain part of Cleeve Cloud!!

Mark Lyford (Helston, 2020-09-10)

#1103

I’m signing because I care about the golf club

Shanade Smith (Cheltenham , 2020-09-10)

#1105

It is the coarse in the county

Rob Daniels (Orihuela costa , 2020-09-10)

#1106

A facility that allows golfers of any standard to play golf , enjoy the landscape ( and the sheep ) should be of vital importance in these Covid-19 times . We need as a human society to socialise and this golf course covers this need in a safe way

Marianne Price (Puivert , 2020-09-10)

#1109

I’m signing because, it’s a beautiful outdoor area that is enjoyed by many for lots of outdoor activities including golf.

Beverley Davis (Apperley, 2020-09-10)

#1110

I’m signing because this course is a rare gem with stunning views and has a history dating back 100 years. A decision like this out of the blue clearly comes without foresight for the number of people it does bring to the area

Noel Morgan (Cheltenham , 2020-09-10)

#1113

The golf course is important for the well-being of everyone, i really hope that it stays open.

Daphne White (Glos, 2020-09-10)

#1116

The loss of golf on the hill is yet another demonstration of the profit over community mentality.

Mark Hall (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1117

The course and clubhouse have important historical value, the clubhouse should be a listed building. This is one of a few and in my opinion best common land golf courses left, enjoyed by thousands of golfers and walkers alike for over 100 years. The club house serves refreshments to all users of the common land. Golf is seeing a resurgence in interest and membership and, whilst not everybody's sport, it an excellent way for people to get out and exercise (soak up some vital vitamin D3 - very important at present!!) and deserves as much financial support as any leisure activity. Cleeve is perhaps the only course easily available to players of any age or ability with no 'snob' value attached.

P Robins (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1119

Was a member as a teenager and loved my golf there

Rob White (Tewkesbury, 2020-09-10)

#1120

How can you close the best golf course in Gloucestershire?

William Higgins (Tewkesbury, 2020-09-10)

#1121

I started my golf career at Cleeve in their Artisans section in the early 1970s .

Jack Lacey (Charlton kings, 2020-09-10)

#1123

I have been a member 40years, now retired and of limited income , Cleeve hill is the really only affordable golf club.
The average fees of my area are over £1000 per year, but Cleeve is less than £600 for a senior member.

Cyril Bunting (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1124

Its a beautiful place , loved having coffee up there.

Fi Eagle (Glos, 2020-09-10)

#1126

I believe it crucial to retain history. 100 years of golf is quite a story

Brian Kelly (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1127

I would be devasted to see this go. Many happy memories with my family on the hill and enjoying the facilities at the welcoming and friendly Cleeve golf club house! Please don't take this away. It serves the community far and wide, helping with mental health and wellbeing for all which in the current climate is vital!!!!

Leanne Phippsy (Cheltenham , 2020-09-10)

#1129

Golf is the best use of this land. Cleeve is a fine course and should be saved for posterity.

Adam Lawrence (Rochester, 2020-09-10)

#1130

This village deserves to retain its leisure facilities. And one such as this brings accessible enjoyment across social economic groups - and helps everyone enjoy the outstanding landscape we live in. Cleeve sees only a couple of MUGA built for the 1000s of new homes, which is appalling. Retain and invest in what we have please!

Kate Clifford (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1133

I’m a member of the golf club and enjoying playing on Cleeve Hill

James Goddard (Evesham, 2020-09-10)

#1138

Because I love the course

Will Naylor (Gloucester , 2020-09-10)

#1140

This golf course has been there long before any of us. This will mean another pay for car park and so on. Along with the younger generation missing out on a cheaper alternative of learning to play golf, the younger kids will miss out unless they have the opportunity to join a more expensive club. Poor decision all round, hopefully some sense will prevail.

Paul Burgess (Cheltenham , 2020-09-10)

#1141

Clever course should be closed great course and no need to close it

Adrian Hill (Gloucestershire, 2020-09-10)

#1144

I’m signing because I simply can’t understand why there’s any need to destroy the original Cheltenham golf course. No real excuse has been presented - and until that happens then it should remain as a functioning leisure facility for the many members and visitors!!!

Jeremy Uzzell (Gloucester , 2020-09-10)

#1148

I’ve have such wonderful memories up Cleese hill as a child

Maggie Williams (Corofin, 2020-09-10)

#1149

The Golf Course has been there for many years. My husband enjoys playing golf there and finally I would strongly oppose any other type of building on common land

Francisca Sankson (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1150

Love the course !! Played there most years for last 30 years .

Philomena McCarthy (Gloucester, 2020-09-10)

#1151

After 125 years of golfing history the current lease holder and council should be ashamed of themselves. They should be investing in municipal golf not closing it.

Martin Gibbons (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1153

It was where I played my first round of golf and got hooked on the game ,it gives any young player the chance to play the game on a course which is open to the public It would be criminal to close this course ,two young players playing on this course are two young youths off the streets getting in to trouble through boredom

CLIVE WILLIS (TEWKESBURY, 2020-09-10)

#1162

This is a fantastic sporting icon that has allowed so many people learn to play golf.
Golf is one of the great health sports and can be played from cradle to grave, keeping the population fit and healthy. It would be a terrible shame to see it closed and further reduce the ability for people to exercise in the fresh air.

Ian Watkins (Toddington, 2020-09-10)

#1165

I’m signing because Cleeve Cloud Golf Course is a special place to play golf and should be saved for many more people to enjoy.

Nadia Stirling (Hereford, 2020-09-10)

#1168

It’s been open for many years, they just need better management in there to make it more successful

Bridget Collett (Berkeley , 2020-09-10)

#1169

Cleeve hill golf course is a historic and important part of the village

Wisdom Smith (Cheltenham , 2020-09-10)

#1170

It has to stay open !!!!!

Devy Piras (London, 2020-09-10)

#1171

I don't want to see Cleeve Hill close!

Florian Pichler (Roethis, 2020-09-10)

#1173

I’m signing this signature because 125 years of golfing heritage that is recognised around the world, should not be lost due to such a complicated and non viable arrangement that has developed over the last few years. Give the members and the community the opportunity to preserve golf on the hill. It will be a travesty if the course and club was lost.

Alex Stones (Winchcombe , 2020-09-10)

#1174

Cleeve Hill is the only affordable pay and play course in the area

David Mattock (Cheltenham , 2020-09-10)

#1176

It’s where I first started playing , fabulous course when maintained properly, a place for your common man to enjoy the game , no golf snobbery here .

Terry Hayward (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1179

We should be encouraging outdoor exercise and enabling everyone to play golf in this beautiful place.

Robert Spawton (Stoke Orchard , 2020-09-10)

#1180

It will be a great loss to the local amenities. The clubhouse will inevitably be sold and demolished and developed as a luxury home or homes which will add nothing to our beautiful Cleeve Hill!

Richard Toms (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1183

I'm horrified to hear the course is closing its doors. I spent many weekends learning the game at this course. Cleeve Hill was extremely welcoming, patient and encouraging with younger members when many other local courses were not. Cleeve Hill was also very affordable for junior members at a time when golf was very exclusive. Although i reside in NZ and do not use the course as such, i would love to see the course saved and keep other youngsters off the streets and doing something constructive with their weekends.

Steven Toms (Lower Hutt, 2020-09-10)

#1186

They shouldn’t be allowed to shut up lovely place like this for again They shouldn’t be allowed to shut up lovely place like this for gain

Sandra Lewis (Glouceststershire, 2020-09-10)

#1187

To stop you putting houses on it

Timothy Hopkins (Cheltenham, 2020-09-10)

#1188

Cleeve Hill Golf Course needs saving because it is unique. There is nothing else like it. Simple as that.

Kai Hulkkonen (London, 2020-09-10)

#1189

We have many family get togethers there including many skittle evenings. It's a real treasure for the community, please don't close it down. Also my dad took up golf there keeping him fit and healthy into his mid 80s. Golf is such an accessible sport where age and strength is not a boundary!

Vicky Dobson (Gloucester, 2020-09-10)

#1191

I know how many members and the general public will be extremely upset at losing a great venue for playing Golf.

Eamon Dooey (Willersey Broadway , 2020-09-10)

#1193

Cleve Hill is a unique and special place not only for the local golfing community who should be ensured afforadable high quality golf but also to the entire global golfing community.
