(Pietermaritzburg, 2017-03-15)

My son attends one of these schools. The level of toxins is unacceptable for children to inhale daily. Not to mention the people who live next to the dump.

Is the municipality prepared to cover the medical expenses and take responsibility for all those who have constant exposure to the dump?

We live in Scottsville and can smell it all the way from where we live.

We have lived close to the dump for years and it has never been as bad as it is now. The fires of last year were literally intoxicating and made you feel sick because of the terrible smells and the burning lungs and eyes. I hate to know the damage it was causing to our bodies. We suffer from allergies and this just makes it so much worse. The smells that come into the windows at night are horrid. Oh how I long for a moment to breathe in fresh air once again! Please move the dump to a more appropriate location, for the better health of all!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2017-03-16)

We need to take some type of action, the pollutants actually effect the entire city, residents on the other side of town might not be smelling it but they definitely still breathing it in. It is so toxic and you can feel the effects on your chest almost immediately, as well as your eyes and nose. The proper steps need to be taken to rectify this.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2017-03-19)

#146

I am directly affected by the smell and smoke from the dump. My grandchildren at St Charles and St Johns are affected as well. I fully support moving the dump away from this area to a place that is away from schools and residential areas.

(Pietermaritzburg, 2017-08-11)

#186

I work at St Charles College and am disturbed by the air pollution the young children are exposed to on a daily basis, and in particular, when there is a fire at the dump. In order to protect the children's health on days when the air is really bad, they are sent home to protect their health, but they are missing out invaluable school time when this happens. A double whammy!

(Pietermaritzburg, 2017-08-11)

My kids attend ST Charles and St Johns and we live in hayfields

(Pietermaritzburg, 2017-08-11)

(pietermaritzburg, 2017-08-11)

This smoke hovering over Hayfields is terrible. My chest has closed up, nose bleeding, tearing eyes, house smells, cannot hang the washing out. This is just totally unhealthy having unkept landfill site so close to residential area.
